Bengaluru, Nov 19: The state cabinet has sanctioned Rs 198 crore multi-village scheme in Ullal assembly constituency, off Mangaluru, and also Rs 41.5 crore for construction of a commercial complex at Kankanady in Mangaluru.

The state cabinet at its meeting presided over by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in Vidhana Soudha on Monday has also sanctioned another Rs 25 crore for the construction of court complexes at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district.

The three schemes in Dakshina Kannada district involve a total expenditure of Rs 264.5 crore, including Rs 239.5 crore for the projects at Kankanady and Ullal.

Briefing reporters after the state cabinet meeting, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said Rs 100 crore has sanctioned for pumping treated sewage water from Bengaluru to fill 30 tanks in Hosakote.

The state cabinet also sanctioned Rs 13.2 crore for construction of court complex at Bhalki in Bidar district.

A sum of Rs 32.89 crore was sanctioned for smart policing under the police modernisation scheme, the minister said explaining that it will help the police to get latest gadgets to track traffic violators.

Krishna Byre Gowda said the state cabinet has decided to maintain status-quo with regard reservation in direct recruitments by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

A decision was taken to continue the earlier policy (2006) which allowed meritorious candidates from the reserved category to be appointed under general merit category, he said.

Announcing the State Cabinet’s decision for sanctioning Rs 54 crore for providing dialysis facility in 57 more hospitals in the State, the minister said already 117 hospitals have such facility.

In addition, Rs 30 crore was sanctioned towards reimbursement costs of organ transplant by the poor people

It also sanctioned an Engineering college at a cost of Rs 19.58 crore and Polytechnic at an estimated cost of Rs 15.16 crore to Mosalehosahalli in Hassan district.

Cabinet authorises CM to limit holidays

With too many holidays for the government employees in a calendar year, the state cabinet has authorised the Chief Minister to limit the number of holidays for ensuring smooth governance.

The state government employees were presently getting 54 Sunday holidays, 12 second Saturday holidays and 21 other holidays, including holidays on birth anniversaries of seers and leaders, which roughly works out to a holiday for every three working days in a year.
