Belagavi: Is minister Ramesh Jarkiholi preparing to join BJP?

Daijiworld Media Network - Belagavi (SP)

Belagavi, Nov 19: If rumours making the rounds are to be believed, Ramesh Jarkiholi, the powerful municipal administration minister and leader commanding enormous clout in the district, is preparing to join BJP.

Although Jarkiholi has been denying any such developments, his behaviour has given rise to serious discussions in political circles. His closer association with state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, has added feathers to the rumours.

Jarkiholi was found taking part in the marriage of Santosh, personal assistant and relative of Yeddyurappa, at Bengaluru on Saturday. The photograph of Jarkiholi in the company of Yeddyurappa on this occasion has been making the rounds in social media.

It is said that Ramesh Jarkiholi, during his participation in the marriage, held secret parleys with Yeddyurappa for about half an hour. This development has given rise to speculations that he might join BJP anytime after November 20.

Jarkiholi's inertia in handling the protests by sugarcane growers seeking to fix prices for their crops, non-participation in any district level programmes, not taking part in cabinet meetings, and not coming to the rescue of farmers tottering under severe drought, have led the people believe that he is no more interested to remain with the Congress government.

One of the biggest menace in the democratic elections is the jumping of leaders from one party to another. They always look at who is stronger and change sides accordingly. So always since independence, we see the same faces everywhere, same corruption, same allegations without any development. Election Commission must look into it and put some controls on these jumping jacks. This also stops opportunities for new aspirants. Let there be an affiliation mechanism and prevention on changing parties.

Any crossover by an elected member of the house is against the mandate of peoples verdict. Our nation needs an immediate amendment to the 'Anti Defection Law'.
This 'Operation Kamala' spearheaded by the BJP to buy opposition is the mother of all corruptions.

I would request 'Association For Democratic Rights' or any like-minded citizen of India to file PIL in the Supreme Court for urgent hearing.

The proposal should ban the elected member and his immediate family for 'lifetime'. This will one small step to cleanse our democracy regardless of the party affiliation.

Secondly, if a tiny nation like Buthan can ban religious person to contest an election, why can't India being the largest democracy follow the same?

We Kannadigas do not want another Arunachal Pradesh, Goa or Manipur like situation which jeopardize the interest of the state for the sake of politics.

It is better to leave Congress rather to be a obstructive for the growth of a party or in that matter, in for an organisation.
