Mangaluru, Nov 18: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, observed that the contractors are following go slow policy in the construction of flyovers at Pumpwell and Thokkottu. He sternly instructed the concerned to complete the entire work within the time limit as already stipulated. In case of failure to meet the compliance deadline, the officials will be held accountable and face disciplinary action, he warned.

He was speaking at Dakshina Kannada district development coordination and monitoring committee meeting held on Saturday November 17 at Netravati auditorium of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat here. He made these remarks after MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, who presided over the meeting, raised strong objection to the slow progress of the above flyovers.

"The Sampaje ghat road has now been temporarily prepared for traffic, and a report thereof has been sent to Kodagu deputy commissioner. Once the deputy commissioner approves, all vehicles including heavy vehicles can take this road," observed executive engineer of national highway authority, Subbaraya Holla. He said that there is proposal to permanently develop this ghat section with an expenditure of Rs 500 crore.

MP Kateel wanted the proposed plastic park works at Ganjimath to begin by February next year.

Inordinate delay - DC warns KRIDL officials of filing criminal case

DC Sasikanth Senthil warned the officials of Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd (KRIDL), that the practicability of filing criminal case against them is being considered because of the fact that several tourism development projects in the district are pending implementation on account of lethargic style of functioning of KRIDL officials.

He was speaking at a progress review meeting on implementation of different tourism projects in the district on Saturday November 17. This meeting was presided over by B Ramu, director of the department of tourism.

"Several tourism projects were entrusted to KRIDL for speedy implementation. A number of these projects are in limbo since long. Several of the projects have repeatedly come up for review, but there has not been any progress in them," he noted. Therefore, he said, the desirability of going to court is being considered.

B Ramu noted that out of tourism projects worth 19.78 crore taken up in the district, projects worth Rs 14.14 crore were entrusted to KRIDL with 2.02 crore worth of projects going to Nirmiti Kendra and Rs 3.61 crore to PWD. He noted that a sum of Rs 8.433 crore had been released to implementing agencies, duly expressing consternation at the fact that projects are getting delayed although there is sufficient grant.

He said that sanction has been given for development of infrastructure and construction of Yatri Nivas near religious centres. He asked those entrusted the work to complete them at the earliest. At the same time, if the problem relates to not handing over site by the agencies, he said that the best option is to cancel such projects.

Assistant director in the department of tourism, Uday Kumar Shetty, and officials of different departments were present.

We know well who benefits from construction of flyovers. Instead of wasting money on construction of unnecessary flyovers at Suratkal and Kulur, more attention should have been given to expedite the work of Pumpwell flyover.

Genuine action from DC. This is the best example, how the well qualified person check the problem and find the solution. Whereas unqualified politicians always try to put blame on others and they do not have any solution.

When the central elections are nearing the DC wakes up and questions officials instead of the MPs who have been slepping all along. Is this not a central project? Common man has suffered enough during the past many years due to unfinished work.

An amount of 19.83 crores is peanuts. DC conducts meetings of such large crowd of officials to discuss 19.83 crore worth projects. There are few rich business persons in Mangalore building houses worth such amount for themselves.
Surprisingly, the persons responsible for failure are discussing and also presiding over the meeting!!!!
