Mangauru: Fish ban - minister Khader promises to speak to Goa government

Mangaluru, Nov 18: Karnataka minister for urban development and housing, and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, U T Khader, promised to take up the issue of placing ban on fish coming into Goa from Karnataka coast. He noted that on account of this ban, which was placed under the apprehension that fish from Karnataka was contaminated with Formalin, has created lot of problems for the fishermen from Karnataka.

"I have already discussed the matter with the fisheries minister. This issue will be raised and discussed during the cabinet meeting to be held on November 19 with Uttara Kannada district in-charge minister and fisheries minister, before raising the issue with Goan government," he explained at a press meet here on Saturday November 17.

He said that he is opposed to the restriction imposed as above. He felt that if there were any problems, Goan government could have taken up the issue with Karnataka government rather than taking drastic steps.

Indira Canteen

On the issue of Indira Canteen at Bantwal, Khader said that the controversy over construction of its compound wall for this Indira Canteen has been solved. He said that the compound of the canteen is being built as per guidelines, but it is also true that it obstructs nearby road. He informed that former minister, current MP, MLAs and officials have inspected the spot. Now, instructions have been given to build the compound in a way that it does not affect movement on the road, he stated.

Goa minister clarifies

Reacting to Khader's assurance and the action of fishermen from Karwar blocking loaded Goan fish trucks moving via Karnataka, Goan health minister, Vishwajit Rane, clarified that ban on import of fish from neighbouring states will continue. Speaking at Panaji on Saturday, he said that he will not reel under threats.

Formalin is actually used for the preservation of bodies in mortuaries. It will stop decay of the dead body. It is cancer causing chemical if consumed. First put those money minded people (at the cost of health of people) from Coastal Karnataka behind bar. There should be some little kindness and humanity. If these money launderers get cancer, any amount of money can't cure them. If we sleep today, we are not sure if we wake up tomorrow morning. What is the point in accumulating such ill-gotten money. No wonder why cancer cases are increasing day by day. It is the self caused karma of humans.

Formalin added to fish consignments is the cause for BAN of fish from Karnataka.
Instead of speaking to Goan government, UT khader should first take action on those shippers who add formalin.

    nice tradeoff coming from you!

beef for poisoned fish? No poisoned fish no beef.

or like the uninformed minister you too are not aware that the fish exported to Goa is laced with formalin to preserve it irrespective of the negative impact on the health of the consumer of fish.

It's not about two states ego, no one should be allowed to use such chemicas to preserve food. Health of people is more important.
Govt of Karnataka should take steps to check and certify consignment and prevent food being poisoned.
Blaming Goa govt for banning poisoned food is not right.
Similarly chemicals are being used to ripen fruits & nowadays caterers are using chemicals to cook, which is dangerous.
