Minister assures to sanction pending grants to Udupi Diocese and St Lawrence Basilica

Udupi, Nov 17: Minority, Food and Civil Supplies Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan has agreed to sanction all the pending grants, sanctioned earlier by the Congress government to the Udupi Diocese and St Lawrence Basilica at Attur in Karkala.

The minister visited the bishop’s house Udupi and met bishop Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo on November 17. Here the bishop appealed for the pending grants and the minister assured to adhere to the same as soon as possible.

“The state government stands with the Catholic minorities of Karnataka. The minister also promised that he will take necessary steps to defend and uphold the rights of the Christian community in the State.”

Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Attur Basilica’s Rector Fr George D’Souza, KPCC Secretary G A Bava, Congress leader M A Gafoor, Udupi district Congress President Janardhan Tonse and others were present on the occasion.

    Being a law-abiding and tax paying Indian and being bound by the Constitution of India by which I have solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Secular Democratic Republic based on the ideals of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity: I order the government not to use, grant or distribute my money for the aggrandisement of religious institutions , their practices, their practitioners or their priests.

    To the minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, I say, " if you are really interested in “defending and upholding ” my rights; first protect, defend and uphold my rights as an ordinary citizen, the rest will take care of itself" .

    There is only one minority community in this country: citizens who abide by and respect the law.

    Although religion is the opium of the masses and politics is the handmaiden of religion; in a secular democracy - the government has no business funding and participating in the running of religions and their practices.

    The business of the government- in a democracy- is to provide and ensure safety, security, fair-play between citizens, provision of infrastructure which involves common use of all citizens, thus facilitating the citizens to lead constructive and productive lives, without wasting their time or money.

    But as the government is totally incompetent, clue-less, busy with “power-play”(kissa kursi ka) and involved in an endless “circle of corruption”; therefore, our governments keep the citizens intoxicated and hypnotized on various kinds of “opium” while robbing them of their money, honour and self-respect. And, the foolish citizens get taken in by this sleight of hand of these con-artists( politicians and their handmaidens).
