Kasargod, Nov 17: The mortal remains of Hassainar Kunhi (57), son of Kunhi Hamad, were buried in a mosque in Dammam after about three years of his death. His funeral had not been performed because of legal wrangles arising out of the fact that his passport contained wrong address. The body had been kept in Katheeb Central Hospital at Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

The family of Hassainar had met Mangaluru MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and sought his help to conduct the funeral. He had written to minister for external affairs, Sushma Swaraj, seeking her intervention. As a result, the body was finally handed over to relatives at Dammam.

The relatives of the deceased had identified Hasainar’s body after a plea to identify it had been published in newspapers during August, in which the report said that the unidentified body was lying in hospital.

Hassainar, who was running a super market in Saudi Arabia, had died due to ill health on December 4, 2015 in the hospital. As the body could not be handed over to relatives because of lack of proper address in the passport, it was preserved in the hospital. Social workers from India functioning in Saudi Arabia had been asked by the authorities to help to identify the body and bury it in Saudi Arabia. Brother of Hassainar, K Abubakar, identified the body after seeing photos published in some local newspapers. He had tried to get custody of the body. He also had contacted MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and through him, established contact with Sushma Swaraj and obtained no objection certificate from there.
