Mangaluru, Nov 17: To spread the spirit and joy this Christmas, like every year, White Doves, the well-known NGO of Mangaluru, is all set to present popular mobile acts in Mangaluru, Belthangady and Udupi from November 30.
The first show of the year will be presented on November 30 at Holy Redeemer Church grounds Belthangady at 6.30 pm and the second show will be held on December 1 at the Mount Rosary Church grounds Santhekatte, Kallianpur at 6.30 pm. The third show will be on December 2 at the Nehru Maidan, Mangaluru.
The life of St Thomas will be enacted by over 70 actors. This will be followed by live crib with carols and dance by the White Doves group. Over 10 singers will blend their voices backed by the famous Sea Seven band for a music show thereafter.
The band is led by Sanjay Rodrigues on the keyboard, Jerome Coelho on the bass, Joswin D’Cunha on lead guitar and Sanjeeth Rodrigues on drums. An addition to the band will be Luke Fernandes on the saxophone. Carols like Mary's boy child, silent night, come all ye faithful, come on ring those bells, Santa Claus is coming to town, jingle bells, Feliz navidad etc will be sung during the show.
The singing will be led by Corrine Rasquinha accompanied by Gina Rasquinha, Dylan Caldiera, Elton Nazareth and others.
Speaking to Daijiworld Corrine Rasquinha said, “For the past 24 years, White Doves has been presenting the mobile acts. It has already completed over 275 shows. We started this in a small way on Tata mobile vans and today we have grown such a huge way. The entire troupe consists of 150 singers, dancers, actors, musicians, ground and technical staff.
The huge stage is built with trailer trucks. Three buses for artists will move to the venues and there are 5 trucks for the performance. This is a unique show. The organizers are expecting over 12000 people for the shows for three days.”
The drama titled ‘Believe’ is written by Bannu Fernandes and directed and produced by Corrine Rasquinha.
White Doves
With the slogan of 'sharing and caring' the NGO White Doves was established in 1990 under the leadership Corrine Rasquinha. It operates two rehabilitation institutions at Matadakani Road and Jail Road Mangaluru, caring and sheltering the abused, destitute and mentally- challenged by providing selfless support.
Most of the inmates are from distant places, found mentally deranged, lying in public places starving and delirious. It also has a children's home at Kulshekar. It distributes 150 to 200 food packets to people who are poor and abandoned on streets.
