Kundapur: Hit by van, Ayyappa devotee loses life

Kundapur, Nov 17: A devotee of Lord Ayyappa was killed on Friday November 16 morning after a Maruti Omni van hit him from behind. This accident happened at Trasi beach in the taluk.

Ganesh Kotwal (48), residing near Mahakali Math at Gangolli, who was in the process of undertaking pilgrimage to Sabarimala and hence was following the austerities connected therewith, was walking by the roadside on Friday at around 5.15 am when this incident happened. Kotwal, who suffered serious injuries to his head and legs, was rushed to a private hospital at Manipal immediately. But his life could not be saved. His end came at about 7.50 am.



Ganesh Kotwall is survived by wife an two daughters.

The killer vehicle had not stopped after this accident. The driver had driven it towards Gangolli. The locals waited for it and intercepted it when it came to the highway back from Gangolli, and informed the police. The police have taken possession of the vehicle involved with the accident and also its driver, identified as Mazhar Ahmed.

A case was registered in Gangolli police station in this connection.

    strikes & devotees. katta devotee says ayyappa was a brahmachari. so 1nly kumari & kumara should b in pilgrimage 2 ayyappa temple. as of 2day 1nly women have b come ket-chup in tetween politics & devotees r not allowing women empowerment. do da s.c loses da grip on its judgements. if not y supreme ruling is objected.

    Omni is still being used extensively to carry school children may be because of cost effectiveness.
