Media Release

Moodbidri, Nov 16: A conversational discussion on the topic 'We and Our Environment' was held at the Ratnakaravarni dais of Alva's College as part of Alva's Vidyarthisiri programme.

Gunesh Bharatiya of Alva's pre-university college, Vignesh Mallya of Dr M Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School, Tokur, Pradyumna Moorthy Kadandale of Moodbidri Rotary English Medium School and Bhaktishree of Alva's English Medium High School participated in the discussion.

Concluding the discussion, Shyam Prasad of Ujire SDM Pre-university College, who presided over the interactive session said, "We have to look at nature from its view and not in our way. Due to this, natural calamities are on the rise. We have to understand that we are not important to the environment. Instead, environment is mandatory for us to live.

"We are attacking nature today in the name of a destructive weapon called 'Development'. We have a feeling that the environment is there for our personal gratification. We are highlighting the deaths of human beings due to the attack from wild animals. However, who is going to compensate for the vicious attack that we have carried out on the environment," questioned Shyam Prasad.

Shyam Prasad further said, "We, who do not know the concept of development, are behaving in an extraordinary manner. The best example for this is the diversion of the rivers. Government has taken up several projects of diverting the rivers thinking that the problem of drinking water will be solved because of these projects. However, in China, because of the diversion of one river, seven rivers have dried up. So nature is the one who is going to protect our tomorrow. It is our responsibility to save, protect and make it grow."

Sannidhi T Rai Perla, president of Vidyarthisiri was present at the programme.
