Muscat: Bunts of Oman celebrate ‘Buntara Isiri’ annual Sports Day

Muscat, Nov 14: Bunts community members residing in Oman recently organised grand sports fiesta to commemorate their 31st years of togetherness in Oman. This was a twin day event. This year’s event is titled as ‘Buntara Isiri 2018’ showcasing the grandeur and extraordinary cultural heritage of bunts with a slogan ‘Unity for Better Community’.

Bunts of Oman 31st annual gathering first event of the year, the cricket tournament was held on October 12 at the Al Sallan Sports Ground in Suhar, Oman. The cricket tournament was inaugurated by senior bunt member Ramanand Shetty. Guthu XI Suhar and Pokri Bunts Muscat reached the finals by facing strong competition from other playing teams. In a close encounter and a nail-biting final match, Guthu XI from Suhar beat Pokri Bunts Muscat to win the finals. Winner and Runners up teams were awarded with Buntara Isiri 2018 medals at the venue by senior bunt members Shashidhar Shetty Mallar, Diwaka Shetty Mallar, Ganesh Shetty, Sathyaprasad Rai and Ratnakar Shetty.



Bunts of Oman 31st annual gathering second event of the year, the family sports day was held on October 26 at Sidab Sports Club Ground, Muscat from 8 am onwards. The event was inaugurated by parents of our bunt member and indeed it was an auspicious moment. Games such as Men’s Volleyball, Women’s Throwball, Women’s Cricket, Kid’s Cricket, Men’s Tug of War, Women’s Tug of War and Other fun games were held for all the age groups. The Organizing committee members of the Buntara Isiri 2018 efficiently managed the entire show by conducting unique and exciting fun games for the entire family.

Activities started after a scrumptious breakfast of tulunadu snacks. A fantastic running commentary in Tulu by Ashok Shetty, in Hindi by Rajesh Shetty and in Kannada by Jayaprakash Shetty kept the crowd entertained. The crowd started building as the time went. These programmes were so interesting and exciting that everyone from toddlers to senior citizens took part in it with gusto and spirit of fanfare. It seemed as if they had left behind the tensions of life and work, atleast for that moment in time.

Kid’s Cricket - Winner: Muscat Champs and Runner: Bunts Four & Six

Men's Volleyball - Winner: Pokri Bunts and Runner: Abhimanyu A

Women's Throwball - Winner: Pokri Bunts and Runner: We Friends

Men's Tug of War - Winner: Pokri Bunts and Runner: Buntera Jawaner

Women's Tug of War - Winner: Pokri Bunts and Runner: We Seven

All the participants played with great enthusiasm making the event memorable and grand success. At the end, the Buntara Isiri 2018 Organizing Committee thanked all the sponsors, supporters, participants and umpires for their full hearted support resulting in a remarkable event. Winning teams and Runners up teams of all group games were congratulated and awarded with medals at the venue to boost their sports spirit alive. The event ended up with mangalorean all time favourite tiger dance and lots of good memories to back home.

Overall the Cricket tournament and the family sports day was a grand success with keen and joyful participation of large number of bunts. Buntara Isiri 2018 is expecting the same enthusiasm for the upcoming Bunts Annual Get-together which will be held on November 16 at Le Grand Hall, Al Falaj Hotel, Ruwi.
