Puttur, Nov 14: Police personnel attached to Uppinangady station raided illegal sand extraction units which were functioning at Gundia, Addahole, Shiradi, Udane and Enjira within Shiradi gram panchayat limits on the banks of Kempuhole river on Monday and seized six pick-up trucks.

During the raids, pick-up truck drivers fled from the scene. The Uppinangady police circle inspector had raided these units a couple of weeks back, but the sand miners who got advance information of the raid, had escaped with the vehicles. The police had then seized boats loaded with sand which were anchored near the riverbank.

During the raid late night on Monday, the police took into possession four pick-up trucks loaded with sand and two others which were found to be empty.

Police squad of the deputy superintendent of police, rural circle inspector, sub-inspector of Uppinangady station and staff of Nelyady police station took part in the operation.
