Udupi, Nov 13: Thieves entered Beloor branch of Kota Cooperative Agricultural Society on the night of Sunday November 11. Although they made an attempt to steal valuables, they failed to do so.

Sudhakar K, manager of the bank, had locked the door of the bank after office hours on November 10. On his return to the office on November 12, the attempted theft came to light. The thieves were found to have broken open the lock of the rolling shutter at the main door. They also changed the direction of the three CCTV cameras installed inside. Reportedly they also removed the plug to stop power supply to the building.

The staff of the bank checked and found that gold ornaments pledged by borrowers and cash were intact. A case in this connection was filed in Kota police station.

Such thefts have been going on in the vicinity for quite some time now. The robbers target jewelry shops, rural bank branches which are in the remote places, temples etc. Police have not been successful in nabbing them. Some of the establishments escape any damage because of the secure safe rooms, cc cameras and sirens. Police vigilance is lacking.
