Puttur, Nov 12: A car bearing Tamil Nadu registration number moving toward Bengaluru fell down into the gorge near Barchinahalla bridge at Shiradi on the border of Hassan and Dakshina Kannada districts in the early hours of Sunday November 11. Venkataraju (40), who was driving the car, died in the accident. There were no other occupants in the car.

Venkataraju had visited Subrahmanya on pilgrimage. On Saturday night, he had offered puja at the temple there. He was returning to his native place, Hosur near Bengaluru, when his car hit the roadside protective wall built to stop a landslide, before plunging into the gorge. The reason for this accident to have occurred is on account of the building's protective wall, the stretch of road there has become narrow.

Police personnel from Nelyady and Uppinangady stations rushed to the spot and arranged to send the mortal remains of the deceased to Deralakatte hospital for postmortem. A case about the accident was registered at Uppinangady police station.
