Congress' Ugrappa polls record 6 lac votes, ends reign of Reddy brothers in Ballary

Daijiworld Media Network - Ballary(DC)

Ballary, Nov 6: In the high-pitched by-poll battle, the Congress candidate former chief minister Siddaramaiah’s confidante VS Ugrappa defeated Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) strongman B Sriramulu's sister and former MP J Shantha by polling 628,365 votes.

J Shantha polled 385,204 votes.

Ugrappa has also broken Congress former president Sonia Gandhi and Sriramulu's earlier record by getting more than 2 lac votes.

With this win Congress has succeeded in ending reign of Reddy brothers in Bellary. The Congress had taken Bellary seriously and had made all efforts to humiliate the BJP by handing out a defeat in by-polls.

V S Ugrappa (Left) and J Shantha

The bypoll, which saw a close contest between the Congress-JD(S) combine and the BJP, was held on Saturday and saw a 67% turnout.

More than 100 Congress and JD(S) leaders have campaigned in Bellary, asking voters to end the 'reign' of mining barons, the Reddy brothers. Interestingly, both HD Deve Gowda and Siddaramaiah campaigned here extensively.

The Reddy brothers had declared a war on JD(S)-Congress alliance, claiming that Ballary is their turf and Water Resources minister DK Shivakumar, who is in charge of the campaign, would have to go back disappointed.

The Bellary curse has been lifted. I hope these looter Reddy's will now be hounded by the state government and the crores and crores of rupees worth of state minerals looted by them recovered. The poor people of the state need this money badly. The permanent residence of the Bellary Reddy family should be a 6X6 prison cell for the rest of their lives.

Now with this victory, I request JD(S)-Congress coalition to intensify the pending cases against the Bellary Mafia Janardhan Reddy and Sriramalu.
The party should make the voters aware that when no Indians can withdraw limited amount during 'Demonetisation' in which more than 150 people died how this Reddy managed Rs500 crores extravaganza wedding of his daughter?
They should also purse case judge mysterious death in 'Bail for Sale' scam. If this case has been pursued in 2003 the repeat of Judge Loyla in Maharashtra in which Amit Shah was main accused won't have happened.
There should be some accountability for illegal mining. Karnataka can't be the loser building emperor like Reddy on government exchequer.
This winning is short-lived as elections are in few months. The coalition should focus on those voters swayed BJP in this elections. The election campaign should continue till the next year elections.

We need more people from Karnataka to represent us Kannadigas first at the center. Why do we need North Indians to dictate their Language, customs etc to us South Indians. Is there any one BJP M.P from Karnataka in central govt in top 5 posts.... Also Bureaucrats, IAS officers, Judges anyone representing Karnataka State. No all top are Gujjus from Gujarat. Time for a change in 2019

Tuluvas can become national level officers, if they pass IAS, IPS etc. Nothing will prevent them from positions what they deserve...however some tuluvas like Jannana, Moily, Sadananda Gowda etc. who occupied positions proved useless in job as well as they proved useless for tuluvas.

Regional Parties with dominant caste backing coupled with prepoll coalition may upset BJPs applecart in 2019. Besides in the major states where BJP is ruling, they are in power for a considerable period of time like Gujarath, MP. Maharashtra etc. therefore antiincumbecy will definitely catch up. However, If a government at the centre is formed by many regional parties, it cannot sustain for Long. they once again will make way for BJP.

    @Shankar,
Don't hide your failure by providing false information.

Just take the information got from RTI. BJP is sitting on massive wealth. Congress no where near to it. To be precise, Congress has scarcity of funds. BJP recently inaugurated its head office in Delhi which is 1,70,000 square feet in size. In 2016-17 BJp got donations which is 10 times that of Congress
