Dolla Mangaluru conferred Mandd Sobhann's Kalakar Puraskar

Mangaluru, Nov 5: Avitas Adolfus Cutinha, popularly known as Dolla Mangaluru, the eminent director, actor, theatre artiste and comedian, was conferred the ‘Mandd Sobhann – Carval Gharanne’ Kalakar Puraskar at Kalaangann Shakthinagar on Sunday, November 5.

Speaking on the occasion the chief guest Fr Praveen Martis, principal, St Aloysius College said, “Mandd Sobhann has contributed immensely to the preservation of Konkani art and culture. This has greatly encouraged the development of Konkani culture. I am happy that a senior artiste like Dolla Mangaluru is being honoured today. Let us be inspired by his work and may the youth continue the tradition of fostering art.”



Dolla expressed his gratitude for having recognized his contribution and for having honoured him. The award consisted of cash amount of Rs 25,000, a citation, a memento and a shawl.

Fr Dr Prathap Naik, the representative of The Carval Gharanne – the founders of the Award, spoke on the occasion. The office bearers of Mandd Sobhann, Eric Ozario, Louis Pinto and Kishore Fernandes were on stage, along with Valentine Cutinha, Dolla’s wife and Danel, his son.

Immediately thereafter, James Lopes of Mother Theresa brass band of Honnavar, rang the bell to signal the commencement of the 203rd monthly theatre programme at Kalaangann.

The popular young singer Prajoth D’Sa of ‘Udi Udi’ fame presented a two hours feast of enchanting music. A bunch of young singers – Prithuma Monteiro, Sion Martis, Ashwija Mendonca, Gavin Menezes, Raneesh Rodrigues, Sonal Monteiro and Derick D’Souza, also sang, along with ‘Blue Angels’ who provided Harmonies and Acapella. Reuben Braggs, Renola D’souza and Ashika presented their dances.

The orchestra was provided by four extremely talented musicians, Gururaj MG on the keyboard, Roshan Crasta on the lead guitar, Sachin Sequeira on the drums and Ashwin Correa on the bass guitar. The houseful crowd that gathered, enjoyed the programme, thoroughly.

The awards ceremony was conducted by Vitori Karkal and the monthly theatre was compered by Arun Danthy.
