Saudi Arabia executes Indonesian maid for killing employer who tried to rape her

Jeddah, Nov 1 (Agencies) : In a shocking incident, Saudi Arabia has executed an Indonesian maid for killing her boss – while he was trying to rape her.

According to a story published in The Sun, the death of the mother-of-one has prompted protests from Indonesia, as the Saudi government failed to warn her family or consular staff before she was executed, said officials.

According to reports Tuti Tursilawati was killed on Monday in the city of Ta'if. The maid's execution marked the fourth such case of Saudi Arabia killing an Indonesian migrant worker without telling diplomats or the family of those on death row before carrying out the death sentence, reports the Telegraph.

Reports further state that there are further 18 Indonesians awaiting their fate on death row in the country.

According to a Reuters report, President Joko Widodo called Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, Adel al-Jubeir, to lodge a protest and demanded to know why Indonesia had not been forewarned about the maid's execution.

Tursilawati, who was working in the city of Ta'if, was found guilty of killing her employer in June 2011.

Indonesian advocacy group Migrant Care said in September that the mum-of-one had been defending herself from being raped.

Speaking about the incident, Indonesian politician Abidin Fikri said that the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has ignored principles of human rights, “including a right for everyone to live.”

Amnesty International Indonesia said that Saudi Arabia had damaged diplomatic ties and had behaved unethically.

Speaking to Wartakota Live, the charity’s executive director in Indonesia, Usman Hamid said, “For the umpteenth time Saudi Arabia has injured the diplomatic ethics of the two countries which should put forward the respect for human rights.”

Slamming the death penalty as cruel, inhuman and degrading, Usman said it violated the right to life guaranteed by the General Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The Saudi embassy in Jakarta did not answer Reuters' calls seeking comment.

Tursilawati's controversial death comes in the wake of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, an outspoken and high profile critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

This rogue Salman portrayed himself as moderate by arresting Saudi royals only to extract their money by force, since Saudi Arabia is bankrupt now.

His true image is come out after the brutal and barbaric murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, an outspoken and high profile critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

And now murder of a poor maid, who defended herself, when the whole world was against her in a brutal environment she choose to make an honest living.

I am equally surprised why Indonesia resumed sending female domestic workers to Saudi, after a long protest in their own country, against brutality of their citizens over there.

The maid paid the price for defending her honor. She is not the first such victim of Saudi Arabia's double standard. What a pity! Recently a self-exiled Saudi journalist was brutally murdered inside their embassy by 15 men who were allegedly sent by their king. Who will give them capital punishment?

You can repeat that a zillion times and I'll agree each and every time. People living in India by and large do not value their freedom and the only time they realize this is when they hear of what is happening around the world.

Take the case of Asia Bibi she spent years in jail under the countries blaspheme laws. The governor of Punjab met her in prison and he found her to be innocent and he began to seek her freedom, and so he was killed along with Bhatti a Christian member of parliament.

After almost a decade in prison the Supreme Court has found her innocent and has set her free, and there is rioting in the streets across Pakistan and people are calling to take the law into their hands and kill her. Not only that they also want to kill the Supreme Court Judges, The Prime Minister, The Chiefs of Army and Police, etc. Just see how intolerant people are around the world.

Most people of the free world fail to understand the Saudi’s and they same questions in different ways - Why do they do what they do? and what is their justification?

Though I know I cannot give that direct answer because it would be considered politically incorrect, Saudi's are governed by their constitution and to have answers to your questions please Google “What is the Saudi constitution based on”? and when you will get the answer then pick up those books and read, read, read from the most authentic sources and “Wallah – All your questions will be answered”

@Langoo Belman USA,dont say that they will never do this to American and Europeans. When situation comes where they think it was a offence, might do without informing anyone. You want examples ?you will never get.It is their land their rules. One has to adapt to it.One may just swallow ,other doesnt in a position to do .without thinking she might have done may it be which way she alone knows. But it is hard for the family ,her son and husband if any to survive further if they are poor family I simply join to pray with them to give peace to her soul.

This is a very inhumanely and cowardly act by Saudi Arabia. The maid may have injured the employer little too much on self defence that might have caused his death but death by hanging for offence of this nature is uncalled for and not informing the diplomatic mission of her country and executing secretly is a violation of international law. Saudi is desperately trying to appease its own people.
