Congress says Parrikar no more; BJP rebuts

Panaji, Oct 29 (IANS): The Congress on Monday said that ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has not been seen in public since October 14, may be no more, drawing a sharp rebuttal from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"Yes, we are taking that call. It is an extreme call that the honourable Chief Minister may not be there at all," Congress spokesperson Jitendra Deshprabhu told the media here.

Parrikar has not had a single public appearance since his return from Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences on October 14 and is currently bedridden at his private residence, which party sources said has been converted into a sophisticated medical facility, with doctors and para-medical staff on 24-hour duty.

The Congress alleged that a coterie of officials around the Chief Minister were "illegally" taking decisions in his "absence".

The BJP called the statement a result of Congress "frustration" and accused the party of lowering the political discourse.

On October 27, soon after Health Minister Vishwajit Rane for the first time officially revealed that Parrikar was suffering from pancreatic cancer, the Chief Minister's Office said that Parrikar was expected to hold a cabinet meeting on Wednesday at his private residence.

Deshprabhu told reporters that the BJP and the BJP-led coalition should prove to the people of Goa that Parrikar was alive.

The Congress leader also accused the media of trying to play down the severity of Parrikar's ailment.

Goa BJP General Secretary Sadanand Shet Tanavade said that "Deshprabhu must be frustrated if he is making statements like this".

In my view, your reaction to Hindustan's oldest political party, is more senseless than insensitivity...!!!

It is the right of the people to know about the man in public sphere...!!!! after all the CM of any state is the public servant...!!!!
Let the party reveal the truth... & reality..., one can't hide the truth for long..., like woman can't conceal her pregnancy...!!!

Honorable CM of Goa is not just the CM for his party members alone...., Congi has a right to know the truth..., but when the truth is hidden for better known reason..., the reality obviously bites...!!!!

While every one wish for good health of CM..., just remember how the prime time TV Dombarata specialists discussed when honorable MP Smt Sonia Gandhiji..., was under treatment ..., sometime back...!!!!

If what is stated by Congress is true, it is highly objectionable in a democracy. Of course, Tamilnadu might have some history like this. That apart, no other state and no other political party did like this. The proxy decisions by officials are dangerous and it would be a mockery of democracy. First of all, what is the necessity to do so.

BJP should not play politics on mortal remains of Parrikar. It's disrespectful to Ex-CM of Goa. BJP consumed by selfishness has no ethics and no respect to his own people and thier service.

In Goa BJP to survive its onslaught of coalition Chief Minister Parrikar is treated like Robert Mugabe
    former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe.

The world's largest democratic party with more than 10 crores members can't even find one able Goan to rule the state.

Is it BJP's master strategist Amit Shah has failed or party is afraid that sacking of former 'Karsevak' may spill the beans of 'Rafale scam'?

The Goa BJP ruling is just like Prime Minister Modi's 'Mann ki Baat', The state without active Chief Minister.

In all honesty, shouldnt the governer of Goa be concerned and call for a new CM to be appointed? I understand our state BJP adores Parrikar but our state needs the government to move on and not cry about someone who's literally unfit to run the state.
