Mangaluru, Oct 22: Five shows of ‘Matharo Charbela’, the 32nd drama written by Comedy King Francis Fernandes, Cascia, were held in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts during Dasara holidays. It was staged at Shankarapura on October 14, at Sasthan on October 15, Jeppu, Mangaluru on October 17, Bajal on October 18 and Kayyar on October 21.

The drama has seen 86 performances including in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Delhi and other states in the country and Israel, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar abroad after its first performance in Mira Road, Mumbai in November 2007.

Joy Paladka has directed the drama in which writer Francis Fernandes is seen in the lead role. Betty Naz Bandra, Julie Vas Marol, Peter Pais Basrur, Gregory Sequeira Niddodi, Shanti Barboza Moodubelle, Flora D’ Souza Kalmady, Lavina D’ Souza Jerimeri and Peter Cutinho have played the other roles. Music was by Vidya Paras Nayak Mumbai, lighting control by Vincent Castelino Bandra, costumes by Sandeep Nagarkar, Mumbai, stage arrangement by Alwyn Bajal and sound effects by Anil Fermai. Steven Pais and Vithori Karkal had extended the assistance.

Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves Shankarapura, Fr John Walter Mendonca Sasthan, Fr Onil D’ Souza, Fr Francis D’Souza Fr Remigius Aranha and Navin Lobo Bajal, Fr Victor D’ Souza and Roshan Kayyar staged the performances with the cooperation of parish pastoral councils and other organizations in respective places.
