Mangaluru: Homage paid to police Martyrs in city

Mangaluru, Oct 21: City police commissionerate and DK district police observed the Police Martyrs’ Day at the district Armed Reserve Police office ground here on Sunday, October 21.

Speaking on the occasion, judge of chief district and session court Kadloor Satya Narayana Acharya said, "Police play a prominent role in protecting the internal security of the society and their service needs to be appreciated.”

“Last year as many as 414 police officers and constables have lost their lives during their service. It’s the duty of the police to maintain peace and harmony in the society. In any situation, police are seen working day and night. Today if we are having a peaceful sleep, we owe to the service of the police,” he said.

“Police work for 24 hours under pressure and they undergo mental stress too. People should be aware about the functioning of the police department,” he added.

Superintendent of Police Dr Ravikanthe Gowda read out the list of police martyrs.

Police Commissioner T R Suresh, DCP Hanumantharaya and others were present.

    This is a special Day. Whenever I have been in Mangalore, I have been attending this Day at the invitation of The Police Department. I can see familiar faces at the scene. The event to honour the brave policemen who sacrificed their lives for the people ... for the city... for the nation. I join the department in saluting these people
