Investors in UAE lose life savings to Heera Group's ponzi schemes

UAE, Oct 20: The arrest of Heera Group Chairperson Aalima Nowhera Shaikh on October 16 in Hyderabad has triggered panic among investors in United Arab Emirates, with thousands being duped of their lifetime savings which they invested in Shaikh’s so called ‘Halal investment programmes’.

Shaikh believed to be heading a ponzi scheme, had assured investors 35 per cent annual returns by investing their money in gold and textile industry.

Several investors flocked Heera Group’s office in Jumeirah Lakes Towers on October 17, only to find it locked. Visits to the company’s establishments in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah were of no benefit and calls made to Heera’s representatives in the UAE remained unanswered.

Many Indians living in UAE gave account to media, on how they lost their savings, falling prey to the words of the 45-year-old Shaikh known for her oratory skills. An Indian had invested Dh 500,000 while another claimed to lose Dh 200,000. Meanwhile, a businessman said that he will sue the company as he does not have any other choice.

Mohammad H, who works as a consultant told Gulf News, that he took Dh50,000 from a loan shark while N.M. from Ras Al Khaimah signed up for a Dh100,000 bank loan, only to invest the amount in Shaikh’s ponzi schemes. Some Indian homemakers claimed to have invested in Heera Group after selling off their jewellery.

Meanwhile, the investigators in Hyderabad are estimating that Shaikh has swindled around Rs 900 crores by floating ponzi schemes. The Hyderabad police have identified more than 160 bank accounts of Heera Group across India where the money taken from investors was allegedly deposited.

Investigators said Heera Group began operations in 2010, and has now grown to 25 legal entities but only 10 are registered with the registrar of companies, Hyderabad. Of these only four filed balance sheets in financial year 2012-13.

Hyderabad police investigations reveal Shaik owns real estate worth Rs 100 crore in Tirupati, multi-storey buildings in Hyderabad valued at Rs 500 crore, hotels and clubs worth Rs 400 crore in Dubai, and other businesses in 43 locations in India and abroad.

In 2017, Shaikh who claims to be a die-hard fan of PM Modi floated All India Mahila Empowerment Party. Candidates from the party contested in the recent assembly elections in Karnataka but failed to win even one seat.

Brother its very sad to note on your investment. The available assets will be liquidated and the banks will take their outstanding first if any because they will have the proper documentation. Then the left over will be distributed to the other lenders then to the investors. There is a high possibility the liabilities will be greater than assets so the investors likely to loose the principle investment, leave alone the profits. You should carry on with your life and follow up on the developments.

Greed of high returns is always risky.

    However,
Quote, "Meanwhile, the investigators in Hyderabad are estimating that Shaikh has swindled around Rs 900 crores by floating ponzi schemes."
Means, she owes people 900 crores.

    But,
Quote, "Hyderabad police investigations reveal Shaik owns real estate worth Rs 100 crore in Tirupati, multi-storey buildings in Hyderabad valued at Rs 500 crore, hotels and clubs worth Rs 400 crore in Dubai, and other businesses in 43 locations in India and abroad."
Means, she have assets worth 1000 crores.
So, investors may get their money back ????

Nowehera Shaikh is the face of a multinational conglomerate with a dubious past, and a national political party with a dubious future.

There have been many rumours that the MEP – a party that will serve to break Congress’s Muslim vote – has been planted by the BJP, but there exists no evidence to prove this. Shaikh herself has denied all allegations of collusion with the BJP as many times as she has denied that the Heera Group is a pyramid scheme.

    And yet there are signs.

Given that the MEP is primarily a party of and for Muslims, the BJP benefits most from its existence. Further giving this argument legs to stand on are advertisements that have appeared in newspapers where Shaikh congratulates Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “Laying stone of starting Bullet Train and for initiating Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.

Kiren Rijiju was present at a Heera Group event to honour the families of Uri victims.

On April 16, a month before the polls, it was reported that 40,000 MEP caps and 3,000 BJP scarves were found aboard a private bus in Sulaga, being brought in from Mumbai to Bangalore. Both parties’ election paraphernalia was said to be manufactured by the same tailoring company.

The MEP was contesting the elections for the first time and secured 0.3 percent of the votes. In all the party polled 97,670 votes after it floated candidates in all the constituencies in Karnataka.

In Telangana MEP wanted to contest all the seats which are also her home state. But Telangana's first chief minister is K. Chandrashekar Rao of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi is no mood to give the cake walk in his fiefdom that may significantly cut Muslim votest to KRS like Congress in Karnataka which may force his party goes for an alliance with the bargain.

So Heera Group so an end of its time. Nowhera meaning ‘new diamond’, an unsubtle nod to the Heera Group just like Nirav Modi cronies escaped with peoples money.

People who believe any investment thru third party fetches you 35% returns, make a simple calculation if they give you 35% means they have to keep them self at least 10%. That means they should earn 45%. How that is possible under this sun.. This is possible only in blade business.

Trust me, If anyone promise you 35% annual return then its crystal clear that, they will cheat you one day. Banks, LIC, Mutul Fund Etc gives maximum 6-9 percent return, Equity may give us maximum 12-15 percent return that too depends on market. Any promise beyond 20 percent means we are putting our principal amount at risk. This is thumb rule in investment.

You have nailed it. The max one can get is 15% mutual funds but subject to risks. Lately due to market volatility even 8% is not possible. If anyone promises above 15% p.a. then one has to be suspicious. This because even when you do your own business the maximum you can earn on your investment is 40% if lucky and that too investing your full time. So if you get 35% by sitting idle it is Gotala.
