Kundapura, Oct 18: Members of Tipper Owners’ Association started an indefinite strike against district administration for failing to keep its promise to allow sand mining barring coastal regulation zone (CRZ) from October 16.

The protesters parked their tippers on Hemmady national highway here on Thursday, October 18 in protest. Addressing the protesters association president GUnakar Shetty said, "Since the district administration has completely banned sand mining, they should implement sand policy and restart it."

He further said, "More than 1,500 tipper and mini tipper owners depend upon sand mining and other construction works. Tipper owners should not be made victims for fault of others. Several daily wage workers and construction laborers also are jobless for the last three years."

“The district administration has banned sand mining without finding alternate means for the tipper owners. The district administration must immediately start sand mining failing which we will hold massive protest in front of DC's office,” he warned.

“We are holding indefinite protest in Karkala, Katapady and Kundapura simultaneously,” he said.

Ramesh Kundar, Rajesh Kaveri, Sharath KUmar Shetty and hundreds of owners and drivers were present.

Oh, lesser accidents on road. These tippers are mostly shabbily maintained. Overspeeding without efficient brakes have taken lives of many innocents.
