Bengaluru, Oct 17: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara flagged off 23 buses set to travel to Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur from the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The vehicles have been arranged to facilitate the disciples travelling to Deekshabhoomi, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where Bharata Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar embraced Buddhism.

Speaking to media persons, Dr. Parameshwara said that a special prayer event is held annually to commemorate the day when the architect of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar converted to Buddhism.

On this day, lacs of disciples travel to Deekshabhoomi to offer prayer every year, he said.

As thousands of disciples from Bengaluru and Kalaburagi too travel to Nagpur to take part in the event, 23 Airavat buses have been arranged for their convenience. Three out of the 23 will travel from Kalaburagi, he said.

“The entire world follows and respects the principles of Dr Ambedkar. Crores of people are expected to visit Deekshabhoomi to observe the day. This sacred monument will gain much more prominence in the days to come,” said the deputy chief minister.

Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge said the State Government is providing bus facility to help devotees from state to travel to Nagpur.

Earlier, Dr Parameshwara and Kharge garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar in front of Vidhana Soudha.
