US gives Saudi benefit of doubt in Khashoggi case

Washington, Oct 17 (IANS): US President Donald Trump has cautioned against rushing to blame Saudi Arabia over the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

He has told the media that Riyadh was being treated as "guilty until proven innocent", adding that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has denied any knowledge of Khashoggi's fate.

Trump tweeted that the crown prince had spoken to him on the phone and he "totally denied any knowledge of what took place in their Turkish Consulate".

Trump said he "told me that he has already started, and will rapidly expand, a full and complete investigation into this matter. Answers will be forthcoming shortly".

The Saudi heir apparent wields considerable power in the kingdom and is being held responsible by many outside for whatever happened to Khashoggi.

The phone call coincided with a visit to Saudi Arabia by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, sent to deal with the crisis in relations. Pompeo will head to Turkey on Wednesday, the BBC said.

Unnamed Turkish officials said a search of the Istanbul Saudi consulate has given more evidence that the Saudi critic was killed there, the BBC reported.

The Washington Post columnist, a strong critic of the Saudi leadership, was last seen alive entering the consulate on October 2.

Saudi Arabia has denied killing him and initially said he left the building "unharmed". Earlier on Monday, The New York Times and CNN, quoting unnamed sources, reported that Saudi Arabia would acknowledge Khashoggi's death was "the result of an interrogation that went wrong".

The New York Times reported that four of the 15 people named by the Turkish authorities as suspects in Khashoggi's disappearance have links to the crown prince, while another is a senior figure in the country's Interior Ministry.

According to the newspaper, one of the men has been photographed accompanying the royal on his foreign visits. The case has put Saudi Arabia under pressure from close allies.

On Tuesday, G7 foreign ministers called for Saudi Arabia to conduct a "transparent" probe into the issue.

International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde withdrew from a major Saudi investment meet adding to a long-list of high-profile absence from the event.

A search was to be conducted on Tuesday of the Saudi consul's residence in Turkey, some 200 metres away from the consulate, where Khashoggi was last seen alive.

But it was delayed because no Saudi official was present for the joint investigation, the Turkish official added. The consul, Mohammad al-Otaibi, left Turkey on a commercial flight bound for Saudi Arabia earlier on Tuesday.

On the day of Khashoggi's disappearance, several vehicles with Saudi diplomatic number plates were seen on video footage moving from the consulate to the residence.

Monday's search of the consulate yielded evidence that Khashoggi was killed there, media reported. Samples, including soil from the garden and a metal gate, were reportedly taken.

Turkish authorities have already said they have audio evidence pointing to the murder.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters the investigation "was looking into many things such as toxic materials and those materials being removed by painting them over".

The US giving benefit of doubt to the Saudis is nothing but taking favorable decision towards their friends. The Turkish Govt. has produced all the evidences that apparently transmitted from the victim's iPhone Watch. As per the latest report the journalist was tortured before being decapitated inside the Consulate. His fingers were cut off. When the Saudi Consul asked the killers to do it outside the embassy so that he will not be in trouble, one of the killers warned him to be quiet if he wants to return to Saudi. These things cannot be done without the "blessings" from the highest authority.
The US has signed $110 billion worth of arms deal which would be at stake if they don't support the Saudis.

In spite of some taxes (VAT) and high rents in GCC countries, the people are still content with their earning and savings. (unlike in our country).
some one can live lavish life or even content with few snakes and sandwiches. There is quality and hygine in the food served in the sandwish shops and restaurants.
why you are worried about the people who are working in GCC countries.?

Dear, here again you are wrong. Every country impose income tax and we expatriate does not have any right to question.

Same way Saudi never begged any expatriates to stay here and if you can pay tax, you are welcome to stay and if you not, you are welcome to leave. Best example I am the one, as NRI for the last 30 years I never paid any income tax in India and now I am paying tax for my family here in Saudi and still I feel to stay here for long.

I heard USA imposing 40% income tax on expat but not sure is it correct or wrong. Anyway still there is millions of expatriates here and paying levy on their family and do you know why?

because this country still feels better than their native place on economy and safety wise but not socialwise. Now a day this country opening it's door for all cultures and try to be on track of global trend.

Saudi Arabia will be isolated slowly. Chances of civil war start within.
Radical groups are after to take over.power. From other end iran made it compel to fight within it's radius from yemen and far into syria. It will incur much loss to saudi.

Earlier middle men in procuring weapons from america is none other than one more with same name Adnan Khassogi. He is brother in law of misr-egypt's Mohammad Al-Fayyad who owned Harrod's in U.K. His son Dodhi Al-Fayyed involved with princess killed latter in french tunnel. Everybody distance themselves from saudi...like doha qatar..pakistan. Wait and watch fate in next few days. Now no more bomb explode in any city. Reason behind financiers itself are on bankrupt.

    Dear Truth (lie:) Teller.
First of all I can say about you is "you are nothing but frog in a well" as well as day dreamer. Do not waste your energy about thinking the future of Saudi and it's better to utilize your energy to protect on our own "INDIA" which was looted and looting by our so called "Nationalist" politicians.

Regarding Saudi, the present drama is just nothing but "I act as beat you and you act as crying" ::::))))). USA knows well that the Saudi is it's "ATM" and Saudi knows this as well (Today you just read Trump's statement where as two days back he was threatening Saudi with consequences:))). After all at the end "PAISA BOLTHAYE"
    JAI HIND.

Heard no more projects are on scene. Indicates need funds. Already shelved US dollars 200 billion project with japan on solar energy. After 2015 down fall started. Need around US dollars eleven billion deficit every money. One's richest country now after soft loan. America playing monkey role in between iran and saudi...doing balancing act..some time up..sometime down.
It's same game plan as done during iran-iraq war. During ronald reagan regime..america is to supplying weapons to iran thru private parties. Russia use to supply weapons to iraq. For outer world there is no involvement of american government. Weapons which supplied to iran..money latter diverted direct to rebels in nicargua...fighting against communist regime. Ek hi teer se do nishana. Ab bhi yeahi ho gaya hai. If by any chance war broke out in major scale country will be devastated ..recover will take next 100 years.
