Mumbai, Oct 17 (TNN) : In an interesting development, Hasin Jahan, estranged wife of cricketer Mohammad Shami, joined the Congress party on Tuesday in the presence of Mumbai Congress Committee President Sanjay Nirupam, news agency ANI reported. Earlier this year, Jahan had come into the spotlight after she accused Shami of infidelity, domestic violence and marital rape.

In March this year, Hasin has made some serious allegations against her husband and had even lodged a police complaint against him. claiming that he had accepted money from a Pakistani woman. Apart from accusing him of having an extra-marital affair, Hasin Jahan had also blamed him of attempt to murder and of marital rape.

At one point during the whole saga, Jahan had once told the media, All of you should have accompanied me to beat Shami. He should be beaten up on the road. How many girls’ life is he going to destroy? He and his family must be arrested."Shami had denied all the accusations levelled against him by his wife, through he had faced intense scrutiny by both the media as well as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, following a cricket-related investigation by the BCCI, the 28-year-old cricketer was finally given a central contract.

The resultant bad blood between the couple led to the cricketer cutting her off financially, prompting her to move court to demand Rs 10 lakh per month as maintenance from her husband. In August this year, Jahan lost the maintenance litigation to Shami as the Alipore Court denied her demands. Nevertheless, judge Neha Sharma approved her maintenance claim for their daughter Aairah Shami that totalled around Rs 80,000 per month, as per reports.

Jahan later decided to go back to her former profession, modelling, to support herself. Prior to marrying Shami, Jahan was a professional model and a cheerleader for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which also happens to be a team for whom Shami has played.
