Puttur, Oct 17: After a crude bomb believed to have been planted by a miscreant at a home located at Polya in the outskirts of the city went off during the early hours on Tuesday October 16, a woman suffered serious injuries. The house where this incident happened is located by the side of Mani - Mysuru highway.

The bomb exploded in the verandah of the house, which belongs to Narayana Prasad, owner of K N Caterers. Narayana's wife, Shalini, who suffered serious injuries, is being treated in a hospital. The intensity of the blast was so strong that the main door broke into pieces and Shalini's blood was found spattered all over the place.

In the meanwhile, two other live crude bombs were found inside the house, one inside the window sill of this house and other, on the stairs to the first floor. If these bombs had gone off, the house would have crashed to the ground.

The Narayana Prasad and his wife are the only occupants of this house. At around 2.20 am on Tuesday, the couple smelt diesel and came out to see. They felt like someone was moving about in the courtyard of the house. Narayana immediately flashed his torchlight. A man appeared like having fled from there. As soon as Shalini stepped out of the main door to check, the bomb planted near the door exploded, inflicting serious injuries to her.

District superintendent of police (SP), Ravikanthe Gowda, said that even though the woman's condition is serious, she is recovering and out of danger. The SP, who visited the spot and spoke to media persons on Tuesday afternoon, said that bomb disposal squad, finger print experts and sniffer dogs surveyed the house, and recovered two crude bombs. He said forensic experts too visited the spot.

Although the house was equipped with a CCTV camera, there was no facility to record the footage, the police found. The SP said that the police have definite clues about the accused and exuded confidence of arresting him soon. The suspect had lived in the house of Narayana Prasad for sometime and worked as helper in catering business. He was sent away after finding that he used to get intoxicated and create a scene often. He had left two weeks back, and the anger for  having dropped from job could have driven him to commit this crime, the police believe. The SP said that the man would have manufactured crude bombs out of his experience of having worked for a stone quarry in the past.

The person, identified as Babu, had approached Polya mosque seeking room on rent. The mosque committee president, Saleem, was also told by him that he had got converted into Islam. Saleem asked him to provide identify proof. Although he came back for the same purpose a week later, he still did not have any address proof. As he said he knew a person running a shop in the locality, he was given a room, asking him to produce address proof within a week, Saleem said. He added that after finding that Babu was consuming liquor, he was ousted from the room within three days since he occupied it.
