Fuel prices: Modi resorting to poll gimmicks, says Congress

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS): The Congress on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for doing "electoral drama" ahead of elections in five states over rising prices of petrol and diesel and said that the government has fleeced the common people through "draconian taxation" of Rs 13 lakh crore.

"Whenever there are elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi starts expressing his concerns over rising prices of petrol and diesel. This is nothing but but electoral drama, Congress spokesperson R.P.N. Singh told the media here.

He referred to Mod's meeting with global oil and gas experts on Monday and said such news reports come during election periods even though the Modi government keeps burdening common people with central taxes on petrol and diesel.

"Facing public ire and imminent defeat in the five states going to elections, Modi government is indulging in 'event management' and 'news planning'," Singh said.

He said measures are not being taken to provide relief to people and demanded that petrol and diesel should be brought under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

"Farmers are dependent on diesel for the tractors, irrigation pump sets, and electricity and rent vehicles to take produce to the mandis. They are badly hit. Prices of essential commodities are impacting all sections of the society -- middle class, poor, women, commuters," Singh said.

Referring to the government cutting down price of petrol and diesel earlier this month, he said the prices are "back to square one".

He said that international crude oil prices have been gone down by $5 per barrel in the last nine days, yet there is no respite in rising prices of petrol and diesel.

Firstly Demonetization in India was done to finish black money and make the fake currency valueless. Although the motives were good, but the policy has resulted in no good.

The new currency has started getting copied and fake notes are in circulation already.

The 2000 rupee note without a 1000 rupee note is not appropriate for a country like India wherein the level of expenditures may not be that much.

Then there exists a difference between black money and black economy. The chunk of black money of India is actually not in India and not in Indian currency.

Despite no good, a lot of problems have been faced by our country. A huge loss to the productivity which was lost when the people wasted their time in the queues. A very poor impression of India on the prospective tourists because the then tourists were absolutely helpless in an alien country without any money.

Our PM talks about the cashless economy, our country is certainly not ready for it. Our people aren’t educated enough to adopt such means. In a country where people are told to build and use the washrooms instead of making open fields as their toilets, how did our government think we are ready for being cashless.
All these stupid acts by BJP government take India into hell. If they ruled another five more years India will go to dogs.

Through an RTI report, RTI activist from Punjab, revealed that India is selling Rs 34 per litre Petrol to 15 countries and Rs 37 per litre diesel to 29 countries while Indian citizens have been availing the same Petrol and diesel for more than double the price.
In 2017-18, the central government earned revenues of Rs 2.84 lakh crore from taxes on petroleum and petroleum products. Taxes from petroleum comprise 36 per cent of the Centre’s tax revenues.
As you can see petroleum and petroleum products are a huge source of income for both state and central governments. However, the real issue is not the price we charge other nations, but the heavy tax BJP Government levies on its own people. The current government in particular is taxing people like East India Company used to tax Indians.
If Congress could keep prices in control, why cant’ BJP do the same?

    The answer is simple:

Taxation: The economic policy of this government is focused on taxation. All they have done is introduced various kinds of taxes and tax regimes without thinking about common people.
Crony Capitalism: A friendly company is in petroleum business. It not only refines oil but also sells it through petrol pumps to individuals and government. If you look at their petroleum revenue and profits, you will see why they are experiencing “Bahut Acche Din” while you “Acche Din” are being used to adjust NPAs.
As of October 2018, Indian government is imposing 2 times tax on petrol and 5 times on the diesel compared to the same time during 2014 when it wrestled the power from UPA government. In fact, UPA government did a phenomenal job is keeping petrol and diesel prices despite extraordinarily high crude oil price.
If BJP spokesperson like Sambit Patra is appointed as the Director of ONGC with Rs27 lakh salary, how the prices will stabilize?
The fuel taxataion is the only way PM Modi government can balance the shortfall on deficit that resulted from crony capitalist bank loot.

Yet blind Bhakths treat Modi like god. It doesn't matter to blind Bhakths rising fuel prices because they neither have own vehicles nor have household expenses or family. They are directly paid cash by thier masters. It only hurts honest, hardworking, tax paying civilized common man.
