Bengaluru, Oct 15: The state government, which had announced that it would protect the interests of SC/ST employees by restoring to them reservation-based promotions which were snatched away on account of Supreme Court order, is in a quandary now. The state government, which had passed a law to nullify the affects of the Supreme Court verdict, had announced that it would go ahead and implement this law after October 12 at any cost> Now clearly it is dithering in the matter.


The government SC/ST employees have been fighting for their rights, claiming that the Supreme Court has already given oral clearance for the same. They held a mega protest at Ramangara in pursuance of their demand on Sunday October 14. They have decided to meet chief secretary of the state government, Dr T M Vijay Bhaskar, and urge him to bring the law passed to protect their interests into force.

On the other hand, the general category employees who have formed a forum, have been demanding that the said act should not be implemented till the Supreme Court comes out with final ruling in the case. Its leaders who met here on Sunday, decided to attend to duties with black badges and begin non-cooperation movement if the above law is implemented. As such, it is gathered that the chief secretary, Vijay Bhaskar, will collect the opinion of advocate general in the matter.

The government may face setback in the coming bypoll in spite of whatever decision it might decide to take now.  The government therefore is said to be planning to put off any action now, as bypoll is round the corner. As the Supreme Court will be taking the case for final hearing on October 23, the government is said to be in favour of following the strategy of wait and watch till then.
