Tiruchirappalli: Damaged Dubai-bound AI Express plane possibly overloaded - officials

Tiruchirappalli, Oct 14 (PTI): The Dubai-bound Air India Express plane was flying at a speed of 250 km and possibly overloaded when its tyre hit an equipment used to guide a pilot to land a flight and then brushed the compound wall during take-off at the International Airport here early Friday, officials said.

Tiruchirappalli airport Director K Gunasekaran has said on-duty Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel had informed the air traffic control (ATC) about the accident, following which the air traffic controller informed the pilots about it.

A day after all 136 people on board the Air India Express plane had a miraculous escape, airport officials Saturday said airport staff, including CISF personnel, who informed the ATC about the accident, are being questioned.

According to the airline, the pilot in command, Captain D Ganesh Babu, has a flying experience on the B737 aircraft of 3,600 hours. The first officer, Captain Anurag, has an experience of about 3,000 hours on the B737.

Ganesh Babu had reportedly told officials that there was no problem in the plane and all the cockpit equipmentindicated to him that plane was in good shape, airport officials said.

The officials said the pilot was supposed to take-off at a particular point on the ‘8169 runway,’ but he could have crossed that point before taking off leading to the tyre brushing the wall.

When the passengers asked about the “scary rocking” experienced by them, they were reportedly told by the crew that it was common.

“It is not known when the ATC staff contacted the pilot after the incident. The exchange between the pilot and the ground staff, timing etc will be examined during the investigation,” officials said.

It is unfortunate that these events should take place. Air India is supposed to be a national airline. Therefore all possible care should taken to avoid accidents or factors leading to accidents. Inquiry will reveal actual situation.

These planes are purchased during Congress time. Congress must answer why they purchased these type of planes. BJP is buying all planes and every thing having overloaded capability. Prices are overloaded, killing is overloaded, Sexual Harassment overloaded, and population is overloaded.

Let BJP rule India ten more years and whole India will be overloaded and all will be overloaded by soil,

Traveler is himself cheating on his own safety here ! hiding the two bags before the check in of luggage ! which is more than 18 kgs ! if one passenger will do that then you can calculate whole passengers hidden luggage weight ! Though there is announcement on while landing not to use the mobile phone till the aeroplane stopped ! but most of the stand and to search their luggage and switch on the mobile !

If anything goes wrong all the blame will go to the administration !! of course our social media is there to thrash the people without knowing the facts !

Please also note that nowadays lot of cargo also is loaded on this passenger flights as this gives revenue to Air India. They are risking poor passenger lives by all this. First of all the planes are not maintained properly and then this over load..

    How can it be overloaded?
While taking off from Dubai the minimum luggage is 30 kgs
While taking off from India the minimum luggage is 20 kgs.

10 kgs per passenger has reduced because the flight took off from India....

    Kuch bhi.....

    Ha ha.. Kuch Bhi?

People travelling from India tend to take more luggage, by any means. So luggage limit is 20 kg, and everyone pays more for the extra luggage.
20 kg limit is for the 'free luggage' with the ticket. It doesn't mean the luggage is restricted to 20 kgs!!!

All the passengers and crew members were lucky that there were no casualties as the AI express plane bound for Dubai landed safely in Mumbai. Now, the question is who is responsible for overloading the plane. Anything could have happened as the damaged plane flew for almost 4 hours without the pilot knowing about it.
