Dubai, Oct 13: To ensure last mile connectivity, helping Dubai Metro and tram passengers to reach their final destinations, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch driverless taxis on October 14.

The autonomous taxis are equipped with cameras that can fully view traffic and road conditions. The sensors can control the vehicle and avoid collision.

"The autonomous taxi contributes towards the integration of mass transport systems by facilitating the movement of public transport users, specifically Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram, to reach their final destinations (last mile)” Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA told media.

The autonomous taxi is part of Dubai smart self-driving mobility strategy. Under this by the year 2030, 25 percent of the Emirate's total transportation will be transformed into self-driving transit means.

The autonomous taxi was designed by RTA in collaboration with Dubai Silicon Oasis and DG World for robots and artificial applications.

Gitex Technology Week will begin in Dubai on October 14. Along with the autonomous taxi, the authority will showcase other cutting-edge technology such as robot cleaners for Dubai Metro stations, 3D-printed Metro spare parts and artificial intelligence-powered automated chat bot system.

UAE government will try to new technology, ideas for development of the country and if government has to spend money 100 percent will be used for that development. India is good country with intelligent people but if Government wants to spend money on the the development than the politicians want 40 percent as their commission and with 60 percent government money will be spent on development so all the development works of government is substandard with very low quality.

Dubai is good, I can say 'the best' among the places I have visited around the globe, but you can not compare it to India on the same scale.
Dubai has a visionary leader with absolute power, who can implement things if he finds it good for the country, without even facing the minutest opposition.
But I India, though the leader is visionary, there is no absolute power. It is a democracy. One demonetization stroke, you people sitting abroad too started screaming!! So achieving the developments what Dubai has achieved in such a short term is impossible in India.

Dubai has over 10,000 taxis at present.

If the pilot project of introducing a few driverless taxis is successful, the drivers of these 10,000 taxis (some of which may be running over two or three shifts) will have to start looking for alternative employment.

Other cities in UAE, and possibly other GCC countries, will obviously emulate the success of Dubai.

Safe for women, and no annoyance of any kind from the driver to the passengers.

    People,

In next 10-20 years most of the work like driving, operating machines, dispensing medicine, surgery will be done by robots...

I would suggest Robots should be appointed as our MLA/MP/Minister's....so we move ahead with corruption free society like in West...

Humans will be doing work of what Rolf doing currently in Dubai...

    ...Tak...Takk...

Langoo, all that robotized automation we had in our Akhand/Virat Bharath during Vedic times, west copied it from us and we copied their corruption, carnivorous diet, sexual promiscuity and all other evils.
