Mandya, Oct 13: After coming to the conclusion that a fake note case had been purposefully hoisted against a former city municipal councillor of Srirangapatna, Arunkumar, the chief civil court at Sirangapatna delivered a judgement on Friday October 12 through which it imposed a fine of Rs 7,62,268 on police officers and then chief secretary of the state government. Out of this, five lac rupees has been ordered to be paid to the petitioner, Arunkumar.

The then probationary deputy superintendent of police, Geetha, who currently is the principal of police training centre, the then police circle inspector, Arun Nage Gowda, who is now circle police inspector at market station, Belagavi, and the then chief secretary of the state, are the persons who have to bear this fine.

The police had conducted raid on November 25, 2013, when local municipal councillor, Arumkumar, was speaking to a person about a land deal inside a hotel at Srirangapatna with Rs 25 lac in cash with him. He was charged with involvement in fake currency note racket. Arunkumar was absolved in the case in 2016. Thereafter Arunkumar had filed defamation suit against the officials. The court has now ordered the officials to pay suit cost of Rs 2,57,125, advocates fee of Rs 5,063, Rs 80 for filing suit with malicious intentions, and five lac rupees compensation to be paid to Arunkumar.

Municipal councillor, Arunkumar, after the judgement, said that he would hold discussions with his advocate as he wants to go on appeal against this judgement as he had spent three lac rupees for this case, which he wants to be reimbursed.
