Mangaluru: Johnlyn Book Exchange delivers donated books to partner educational institutions

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 13: Johnlyn Toy and Book Exchange delivered the first lot of the books collected through donations to four partner institutions. Of the total of 1908 books collected 848 books were presented to St Lawrence English Medium High School, 625 to MGC PU College, 149 to Besant Management Institute (all from Bondel) and 286 to St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor. The representatives of these institutions formally received the books through a token hamper presented by the chief guest on the occasion, Dr Narayan Kayarkatte, director, Besant Management Institute, Bondel.

In his remarks Dr Narayan stated that books are central to learning, formally or otherwise. He said that recognizing the pivotal role of books, the Besant Group of Educational Institutions has stopped honouring its guests with bouquets of flowers and instead books are presented to them. Dr Narayan appreciated the work being done by the Johnlyn Toy and Book Exchange and wished it continued success.

Earlier, John B Monteiro, founder of Johnlyn Toy and Book Exchange, set the informal meet going with a silent prayer, followed by Neisha Lobo and Mohan Monteiro, both co-founders – the former welcoming the gathering and the latter sharing the background to the exchange’s inception and its progress since. Mohan said that the exchange was started in memory of his mother Lynette Monteiro, a lover of books and keen solver of crosswords and sudokus, on January 24, her first birth anniversary after her passing.

After the formal presentations to nominees of the partner institutions, the Johnlyn Exchange team delivered bulk consignments of relevant books to these institutions, courtesy transport generously provided by Karnataka Agencies.
