Mangaluru: DK stands second in state in using solar energy - Ivan D'Souza

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 13: MLC, Ivan D'Souza, said that Dakshina Kannada stands only behind Bengaluru in the entire state as far as using solar energy with panels is concerned. He was addressing a press meet here on Friday October 12.

He said that during the last year, 377 solar energy units built over the roofs were installed. These solar units have been generating 5,081.58 KW energy, he explained. Out of them, 177 have been installed in this city alone, producing 1641 KW energy, he revealed.

"Even under smart city project, ample opportunities have been given for boosting power generation through solar panels. Under this scheme, 1,500 KW of energy is proposed to be generated through the roof-mounted solar panels, he stated. We had set up rooftop solar panels of 3 KW each in 50 schools of Dakshina Kannada district by using his local area development grant last year. All these units are working well. The schools also get incentive of over a thousand rupees each from Mescom," he added.

Ivan said he has spoken to the district superintendent of police and city police commissioner, urging them to set up solar panels in all police stations. He said that the rural development and panchayat raj department had taken a decision to set up solar panels in all the gm panchayats within their limits. He added that he had used his grants for providing solar-powered lightings to homes of 35 Endosulfan victims at Perabe, Puttur taluk. He stated that he had approached the city corporation here as well as the zilla panchayat, asking them to make it compulsory to set up solar panels wherever the built up area of houses is over 2,000 square feet, duly adding that the zilla panchayat has been told to convert all high mast street lights into those powered by solar energy. He felt that the city corporation can make it compulsory for commercial units to erect solar panels before issuing licences to them.

He has asked the deputy commissioner of the district to hold meeting for discussing the issue of increasing solar energy use. He said that solar panels have been kept ready for installation in Mangala Stadium in the city.

I was thinking to install solar panels for the pat five years ...... rules and benefits are real confusing in terms of MESCOM buying it and the rate, supply to grid and off grid usage. I attended a sales seminar too but not convincing compared to the cost. If government wants to make it popular, end user should recover the investment in 3 to 4 years if subsidy is provided.
A dedicated government website or 24X7 helpline by knowledgeable people and not from reservation quota ladies may help towards independent electrical energy and a relief from frequent power cuts. With this initiative it may cost cheper compared to diesel poured into generator.

I have never understood why only rooftop installation is permitted. It is much cheaper to install on ground level so that it can be connected to the Mescom lines with less cost.
    Will Mr Ivan explain

    Why rooftop?

Because that space cannot be used for anything else productively other than installing solar panels....moving forward its even better we stop making roof tiles and use solar panel instead...

Rates of Solar power going down from Rs 7.5 to Rs 3.5 KWH/Unit ...it is supply Vs demand ...shows we are producing more power from other sources especially Coal based thermal units...

Regarding reservation in jobs???...its unique to India and curse to Indian development...with reservation...India will never become a First world country...

Donald D...Sidda is a great supporter of caste based reservation...its funny in one hand you support Sidda and other hand against caste based reservation...you better choose one...

If installing Solar panel is expensive please plant your favorite tree saplings around your house and water them till it is big enough to survive the summers.

Though Solar energy available plenty, Government should encourage in investing for Solar power installation... Earlier Mescom used to buy power from Domestic Solar installations at Rs.7 per unit now it is reduced to Rs.3.50, while domestic users of Mescom are charged Rs 5/- ? Is this fair?
I had planned to invest in 5 Kw solar installation, with agreement to sell excess power generated to Mescom..but reality is that, Mescom would buy power from you at Rs.3.50 and if you use Mescom power it would cost you Rs.5 or even more as per consumption...!

Ivan sir, do something in this regard

    You have a valid point
where is the incentive this Ivan is talking about instead MESCOM is eating Rs 1.50 from you
In fact MESCOM is saving money on transmission and other logistics cost as you are generating it
Now I think as more and more people have started producing they have reduced the price
Any way forget about MESCOM .You are doing s great service in creating Green Energy Keep up the good work
