Doha: GWA set for grand World Goa Day on Oct 19

Doha, Oct 11: After successful years in organizing May Queen Ball and other mega events in Qatar, Goan Welfare Association (GWA), one of Qatar’s notable associations - under the leadership of president Simon D’Silva, is all set to celebrate World Goa Day 2018 with traditional pomp and splendor on October 19 at Mercure Grand Hotel from 7 pm onwards.

GWA has been in the forefront in Qatar for the past many years. Since inception, the association has rendered yeoman service in nurturing Goan culture and spirit among expatriates.

World Goa Day celebration is perhaps the only Global Goan event that reminds the Goan community of their identity as Goans. The event is intended as a day for Goans worldwide - to focus, take pride and celebrate their culture, language, traditions, music, cuisine and more, wherever they are on planet earth. World Goa Day has now become a signature event worldwide and appears in the calendar of events of every major Goan association worldwide.

Theme of the event

While the event will highlight Goan art, culture, traditions, language, music, costumes and more the theme of the event has been delicately thought out. “The basic idea is to celebrate through music and language. It will display the real essence and identity of Goa,” disclosed GWA president Simon D'Silva.

Star performers

The star attraction for the event will be Noronha Brothers from Goa who have travelled many parts of India and performed all over Goa. One of the legends of music among Goans, Kuwait-based music maestro Succoro De Melo is expected to exhibit his rhythmic class at the event.

Soccoro plays for Kuwait TV in Kuwait and is seen at many Goan events.

Kuwait’s Frederico D’Mello, a product of Academy Music from UK will also feature at the event.

Kuwait’s dazzling Konkani singers Esparansa and Gasper Crasto are also expected to perform Goan songs and dance.

DJ Nelson and talented Doha mood setters

DJ Nelson will provide hip-hop and trance music catering to the new generation while Agnelo Rodrigues will provide music to local talents.

Comperes Peroz and Pernina Pereira will be the mood setters expected to create ripples and amusement with their interactions with the crowd right from the start. A number of talented Goans based in Doha will be part of the celebrations. Stars expected to perform include John De Sa, Figo Rodriguese, Rosario Dias, Peppy Pereira,
Camilo Colaco and many others.

Delegates from Kuwait

Carmo Santos, man behind Kuwait's famous ‘Airlift’ during the invasion of Kuwait and chairman of Goan Cultural Centre - Kuwait has consented to be the chief guest. Apart from helping Goans in Kuwait, Carmo is well-known for hosting the first international Konkani Film Festival and the global Goans convention in Kuwait.

Guest of honour

Agnello Fernandes, another dynamic Goan based in Kuwait will be guest of honor at the event.

Agnello is the senior vice president of Fund Administration Department, Gulf Custody Company, one of the biggest fund custodians in Gulf Cooperation Council countries, administrating more than 80 funds – having over 7 billion US dollar worth of assets under them.
