Kundapur, Aug 11: “Several posts in the department of transport are vacant as the case regarding recruitment in the department is pending at Supreme Court. New RTOs are not opened as managing them is impossible now. There is no proposal of opening new offices for the time being,” said Karnataka minister of transport D C Thammanna.

He addressed news reporters after visiting Anegudde Vinayaka temple, Kumbhasi here where he offered prayers to the deity in the presence of temple priests on Friday August 10.

“Though 31 employees are required in Mangaluru RTO, only 14 people are employed there. As a case regarding recruiting is pending in the court since four years, more than 400 posts are vacant. ARTO and RTO offices will be opened on priority when the posts are filled. Commercial complexes and KSRTC bus stands are being constructed at an estimated cost of thirty crore in Udupi and Mangaluru. A government bus stand and depot will be built in Byndoor at a cost of five crore. Measures for development of transport system are taken up as per public demand in the coastal region. Transport buses are being run in rural areas though not profitable for the transport corporation.”

“Buses which have run more than 78 lac kilometer are being discarded. If those are in good condition even after running for 78 lac kilometer, they are being run for another five lac kilometer after some modifications. 100 new sleeper coaches will be introduced in necessary areas,” he said.

Temple managing trustee, Sriramana Upadhyaya, trustee K Suryanarayana Upadhyaya, Udupi district JDS president Yogish Shetty, party members N Manjayya Shetty Sabladi, Ramesh T T Road and Hussain Haikadi were present.
