Udupi, Jul 12: Relating to the murder of cattle trader, Hussainabba (62), the court of the additional civil judge here, through an order dated Wednesday July 11, extended the period of judicial custody of nine accused including Hiriadka police sub-inspector, D N Kumar, till July 24.

The period of judicial custody of the accused in the case ended on Wednesday and the court extended the same by 14 days. In view of security concerns, the accused were not produced in court. The hearing was conducted through video conferencing facility. Assistant public prosecutor, Jayanthi was present.

Out of the 11 arrested, the district and sessions court granted bail to Hiriadka police station head constable, Mohan Kotwal and Bajrang Dal leader, Prasad Kondady by the district and sessions court on June 18. All the accused except Deepak Hegde are lodged at Karwar prison while Deepak Hegde has been accommodated in Mangaluru prison.

On Wednesdday, advocate for accused Deepak Hegde, Arun Bangera, presented arguments in court relating to the bail application moved by Hegde. After hearing his arguments, judge Venkatesh Naik provided opportunity for district public prosecutor, Shanthi Bai to present her counter arguments on July 13. Deepak Hegde, who sold the cow belonging to his family to Hussainabba and reportedly then alerted Bajrang Dal, is currently in the district prison at Mangaluru.
