Aadhaar helped save Rs 90,000 cr, says UIDAI chairman

Hyderabad, Jul 11 (IANS): India has so far saved over Rs.90,000 crore with the use of Aadhaar, UIDAI Chairman J. Satyanarayana said on Wednesday.

On an average, around three crore people are using Aadhaar every day and it is primarily used for ration, pension, rural employment, and scholarships, he said at in his address at an international conference on digital identity, with a special focus on Aadhaar.

The three-day conference being organised by the Indian School of Business (ISB) began on Wednesday.

Satyanarayana, in his key-note address, said that more than Rs 90,000 crore are estimated as reported savings or gains by the Departments of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Food & Public Distribution, Rural Development and others.

Emphasising that the governance system has constantly been changing with the growth of technology and that the country was moving towards a scenario of "invisible governance", he underlined the need for research in some areas.

"We will need further research in creating more efficient bio-metric identification systems; security of Aadhaar eco-system; improvement in processes of enrolment, updating, and authentication; operation in areas with challenged networks and use of artificial intelligence and machine learning for fraud detection and prevention."

The objective of the conference is to showcase the research work done by the Digital Identity Research Initiative (DIRI)at the ISB. DIRI's research especially focuses on Aadhaar and explores the pros and cons of the ecosystem.

Ashwini Chhatre, Executive Director, DIRI, set the context for the international conference, in which around 150 researchers on digital identity from India and abroad are participating.

To support UIDAI chairman's statement need government database on the savings made. Any claims without proof is void.
Pertolem off course. The India is the only country in the entire South East Asia paying more 120% tax for a liter of petrol.
This mans figures are wrong. In last four years PM Modi government collected more than 4 lakh crores in terms of taxes on petroleum product. It is not Aadhaar but high fuel prices is saving the budget deficit government.
Now please gone back to the book and steady. Kindly focus on Aadhaar 'Data' protection of the common citizen of India rather than giving unfactual figures.

Adhar card is UPA/Congress implementation and the present govt. want to take credit. Before 2014 election, Modiji said, he will wipe out Adhar card and after came to power, took a U turn and they are the one started using it. BJP did not have any alternative to Adhar card.

Regretfully india has a very poor security management system. Some of its methods and practices are just routine and traditional without any due effective consideration for watertight fool proof system. Officials statement on further improvement in Aadhar system is laughable and claims a savings of Rs 90,000 crores with all possible loopholes, no proper identification, criminals and terrorists securing this card just by thier bedside within hours. This official must disclose how much he spent of taxpayers money to save Rs 90,000 crores.

fact check..., just go & ask the people belong to poor/dalit/minority class..., they don't have this card with them..., they were all mercilessly taken away by the intimidating followers of political parties...,

Just ... ullu banaawing.....!!!!! after all LORD BRAHMA knows & watching this....,

aadhaar created lot of just like yettinahole project...

I think aadhaar depends on bio metric ... so you cannot use my aadhaar even if you have original!

if they don't have secure finger print verification system even until now and if they are going on distributing benefits otherwise means their mark is zero.... It is very very unlikely...

Don't try to "ull banav" DW readers.now it is direct transfer to respective account and ration is paid thru bio metric checks.so by getting aadhar card you can't get the benefits of the card holder
Further you r telling that somebody told you about this and you don't have first hand report "roumer mongers are nations enemy "so don't believe roumer.
Ppl belonging to sickular Khangress who used to swallow the benifts meant for poor ppl r spreading such roumer as they have lost a source of easy money

Ration is still given physically as rice dal etc after biometry. People exchange the ration rice for good rice in mangalore area at least. The ration rice goes elsewhere then. That s kind of ok.But direct money transfer is ideal.

Adhar is only ID with unique number. We can download any time from computers. All benefits given to poor's are directly transferred to their bank accounts.
