Mangaluru: St Mary's PU College salutes unsung heroes of MCC Milagres ward

Mangaluru, Jul 10: The sesquicentennial celebration of The Foundation of The Apostolic Carmel was celebrated on Tuesday July 10 with the unsung heroes of the city at St Mary's PU College, Falnir here.

Fr Clifford Fernandes, parish priest of St Joseph's Church, Jeppu was the chief guest and Sr Gloria, the joint secretary of St Mary's Institutions presided over the programme.

The event commenced with a prayer service filling the atmosphere with divinity and grace. Sr Rachana, the principal of the college welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. To commemorate the 150th year of the Foundation Day of The Apostolic Carmel, the staff of Mangalore City Corporation, managed by Antony Waste Management Company were offered a special invite. Their dedicated service to the city towards a clean and healthy environment was acknowledged by felicitating eight members of the Milagres ward, Chandrakantha, Kumara, Parvathi, Savamma, Gangamma, Sharada, Lakshmi, Geetha.

The chief guest in his address appreciated the services of these unsung heroes of the city and exhorted the students on the need to remain grateful to thousands of people like these who make their lives a blessed one through their yeomen service to society.

The celebration culminated with a memorable folk dance and dance drama titled 'Life of Mother Veronica, the Foundress of the Apostolic Carmel' performed by the students, thus providing them with an opportunity to know Mother Veronica and the legacy she left behind.

Akshatha R, lecturer in Psychology compered the programme and Vijaylakshmi, lecturer in Chemisty rendered the vote of thanks on the occasion. The programme ended on a high note with a message uplifting the ideals of Mother Veronica kept alive through St Mary's Institutions.
