Shivamogga: 15-year-old girl meets watery grave in front of her mother

Shivamogga, Jul 10: In a heart-wrenching incident that is reported from Dudlimane near Thirthahalli taluk, a young girl who was crossing the canal on a footbridge along with her mother lost her balance, slipped and got washed away by the force of the water.

This tragic incident occurred on Monday, July 9. The body of the girl has not yet been traced due to the incessant rains.

Ashika (15), daughter of late Yogendra Gowda and Anita, residents of Dudlimane is the unfortunate victim who drowned in this mishap. She was a student of ninth-grade.

A holiday was declared for schools and colleges on Monday, July 9, due to the heavy rains. So Ashika was at home. She and her mother went to buy grocery from the ration shop at Honnetali and were coming back after buying the things. Ashika suddenly slipped from the footbridge and started to drown. Her mother Anita too jumped into the canal and tried to save Ashika. However, she could not save her daughter as the force of the water washed Ashika away from her.

Anita cried for help and people who were nearby arrived and tried to trace the girl but it was too late.

    This tragody could have avoided if a bridge was constructed .ery sad.Bridge which is there is handmade and very narrow.No support when someone loses the balance.In rainy times it slips more.Instead a bit widen the present one,and a helpof a long and secure rope on the side might give some halt to support before you fall in down.Heartfelt sympathy to the family.may her soul rest in peace.why does the panchayat not take any interst to improve the problems of villagers?or interested only during votes.?

    especially we don't want any road divider or any other improvements of the roads in the cities.we have suffered a lot. Instead of that-My sincere advise is to invest money of the tax which we paid every year for the betterment of the roads, schools, strong bridge, hospitals in villages

    Our country is not even at par compared to Laos Cambodia Vietnam MYANMAR srilanka and Nepal when it comes road and infrastructure.

    Jagdish, U expect Sonia & Rahul to go to Shivmogga to repair the bridge built by Indira & Rajive Ghadi? What our jail bird in Shivamogga is doing? Don't we have our Panchayat members or Corporators there? If so what is their job? Our Feku & Daku visited all most all places in Karnataka to campaign for state election. Why U didn't ask them to check the condition of this bridge?
    By the way what is the condition of water logging in Mumbai? Who is responsible for the crumbling railway foot brides there. Do U expect Britishers who have built them to come to Mumbai to maintain them?

    Do not understand why our people waiting govt funds has to come and bulid a new bridge, a simple wooden or bamboo hand holding would have protected for some one, local people must awake in this case and help .

    People attitude is very very different.
    In my place there is big todu and nothing was there to cross in our property... There is one stone slab 1.5 feet width and 20 feet long sanka in far away other property to cross installed by panchayath 50 years... Even we were using that and it was talking long distance to reach road...
    Four years back I spent 50 thousands and installed one pre fabricated steel bridge in our property which has steel pipes hand supporting on both sides.. It working well even now...

    Now we have 3 neighbouring houses they didn't pay single rupee to me and started using the bridge without my consent....
    Now I have asked them to pay one thousand rupees every year in order to use that beautiful bridge... Every year I need thousand rupees to paint and maintain the bridge... This is story of people in India!

    People are there to enjoy the fruits and they disappear when you ask for tax!

    Sorry to come across this sad incident.

    It costs next to nothing to build a hand-rail of bamboo, or a strong rope. For this people do not any assistance from the Government. It is plain and simple common-sense, combined with the good-old concept of self-help.

    Hope the local people build a simple hand-rail, and save themselves from future accidents.
