Mohiuddin Bava loses to BJP's Bharath Shetty in Mangaluru North

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 15: In another shock for the Congress in Mangaluru City North constituency where B A Mohiuddin Bava of the Congress has been defeated by BJP's Bharath Shetty. BJP candidate Shetty secured 39372 followed by Bava with 27932. Meanwhile Muneer Kaatipalla of the CPIM secured 880.

Bava conceding the defeat said that he lost only due to Hindutva wave. "BJP polarised the votes in the name of religion and caste. They got success in their agenda. They hijacked the development works which I had done for my constituency by Hindutva. There were no issues in the Congress since we fought unitedly."

Meanwhile BJP has won Sullia, Moodbidiri seats. S. Angara of the BJP managed to retain his Sullia seat for the sixth consecutive time. S Angara secured 28301 while Dr Raghu from the Congress garnered 22236 votes. Raghu of the BSP has secured only 432 votes.

Counting of votes is being held at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Higher Primary School, Bondel (Belthangady, Moodbidri and Mangaluru North) and Mahatma Gandhi Centenary PU College, Bondel (Mangaluru South, Mangaluru, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia).

The Bharatiya Janatha Party opened its account in the crucial assembly elections with its Candidate from Moodbdri constituency Umanath Kotian won by more than 22,000 votes by defeating his rival Abhaya Chandra Jain of Congress. Umanath Kotian secured 51351 votes followed by Abhaychandra Jain with 31371 votes.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has retained the Ullal Assembly Constituency seat with its candidate U T Khader winning the assembly election. He defeated his nearest BJP rival Santhosh Kumar Rai by 35,594 votes. Santhosh Rai Boliyar secured 20561 votes followed by K Ashraf from the JD(S) who secured 2028 votes.

Leads put out by the Election Commission of India on the Karnataka Assembly results show BJP ahead of Congress with 81 seats to the incumbent government’s 48, while the JD(S) is definitely emerging as an important third factor with 36 seats.

Counting of Karnataka votes began sharp at 8 am on Tuesday, May 15.

Counting is on in 222 constituencies of the 224-seat Assembly. Voting was not held in two seats. Any party that touches 112 will get the clean majority to form government.

Mr. J.R. Lobo's defeat makes me to think that something is definitely wrong with EVMs. I don't think it was communal politics or other inducements. If such a honest and clean man has no place in politics, I have no words to say. Yes, I don't believe in Black Magic but believe in blackmailing through black magic.

A very good Hindu friend of mine (he has left India and stopped dealing with India on any business matters) had told me once. You trust a European country, the chances are you will get 85-90 paisa value from one rupee. If you trust a Muslim country, you will get anywhere from 50-60 paisa in a rupee. If you trust a HINDU, you will be lucky if you get 10 paisa out of a rupee. Being a hindu himself he gave me an amazing definition of what India is with 85% Hindus. So, any amount of hard work will not earn any credit from our population example Bava, Madhwaraj, JR Lobo and to a major extent Rai... all worked hard for everyone but they were rejected. Do I need to say any more? What you sow is what you reap. Now wait for your Bhagya...attack, communal hatred, lynching, corruption, molestation....coming your way very soon.

Sad to see the voters choice ,inspite of the development work done in Karnataka by the congress government they have been rejected .Something seriously wrong with the society as we have chosen a jail bird as a CM candidate and the people who looted the resources of karnataka by 4000Crore . Only hope is that we don't slip to 2008-2013 period and the next government treats all communities as 1st class citizens .

Please note I had put my comments on undivided Coastal Karnataka some timeback. I used to see comments by our esteemed readers and disagree was more than Agree. I used to always think I might be wrong. I used to always say that BJP made inroads in undivided Coastal Karnataka only due to Congress foolish decisions. They always say that they are secular which I feel they are not. The issue is whatever congress says is right and the other parties say is wrong. We should come out of this. Statements of Ramanath Rai sometimes were not good and I felt his time has come. We need to be positive and take all strides of people together else these things will happen. I know BJP will not do miracle. I always used to praise U.T. Kader. He is approachable and we can talk to him. This is what is required. This is why he won the election. Some Politicians in undivided Coastal Karnataka are arrogant and not easy to reach. This is one of the reasons for losing. Please find out your faults and don't take any community granted. We need everybody and moreover many of our youths are not getting jobs. We need to fight united in getting jobs, united against drugs.

Dr.Barath Shetty was well educated person. It was sad that Mr.JR Lobo who has really done a very good job lost hope new MLA Mr.Vedvyas will continue the work Mr.Lobo has done.Good to see Bavas defeat.Young gun Harish Poonja won against a stalwart of Congress Mr.Vasath Bangera.Obviously Rakesh Mallis defeat was as expected as Mr.Halady won by a margin of One lakh votes.Khader winning from Ullal was expected as in his constituency lot of students are expected from Kerala to vote who are staying in hostels.Whoever is in outside country their vote is also put by these students.
Anyways Modi magic and Yeddyurappa coming back to form is a good sign to BJP as he is a strong leader nothing happened by deviding LINGAYAT votes at the last moment.Vokkaligas votes JDS and Ligayats votes got split here.Karkala Sullia as expected and Ahankara of Ramanath Rai got hit so hopefully his political future is almost over one can say.

Looks like people have voted out of anger against the congress. If not for JDS ,congress would have been in the dust bin. I think Shah has to device a strategy to turn the vokkaliga votes.. which I am sure they will do for the 2019 Elections ..
Good luck to Modi ...hopefully we do not see any silly actions such as beef ban,gow maatha etc ...and there will be more development going forward.

The people get what they deserve. I have written in these columns that this region has experienced tremendous development under Moideen Bava and that is there for all to see. One doesn't have to be a supporter of any political party to see this. Moideen Bava would be totally crestfallen to see the kind of results that have been announced today. After having done so much hard work, he certainly deserved to win but the voters have clearly shown where their priority lies. Now that the results have been announced, my sincere hope is that the new MLA puts his heart and soul into his work and carries on the good work done by Moideen Bava. As long as he emulates Bava, it hardly matters which party he belongs to. This region has experienced communal harmony during Bava's tenure and I hope it stays that way. While congratulating Dr. Shetty on his victory, as a start I hope he arranges to have a lot of saplings planted in this area as the trees have made way for development. I am not against development, however, we have to ensure the ecological balance. In addition to communal harmony, maintaining ecological balance is also of paramount importance. I hope the new MLA gives a serious thought to this.

Agree with parts of your comment except that only Bava can give development. There are others who can give development too. People can see through Tippu Jayanthi, appeasement politics, dividing religion, arrogance, hypocrisy and will vote accordingly. Why feel dejected about that? Btw, in any victory, it is not like only one community votes for one party. Section of every community votes for all parties. So important is not to brand anyone as representative of one section and take everyone along.
