SJIM listed among top 3 Bengaluru business schools in NIRF ranking

Media Release

Bengaluru, Apr 7: St Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM), is among the top 3 business schools in Bengaluru, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) list released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, on April 3.

The authoritative NIRF ranking has judged SJIM to be just behind IIM-B and XIME among management institutes in Bengaluru. SJIM is also among the top 7 business schools in Karnataka. Forty-six management institutes in Karnataka participated in the rankings, of which twenty-five were in Bengaluru alone, making SJIM’s achievement particularly notable.

NIRF adjudges educational institutions based on five broad parameters. The first parameter measures the institute’s quality of teaching, faculty quality and capital investments in education. NIRF also considers student outcomes after graduation, such as placement and salary. Other parameters include the institute’s research and professional practice, peer and public perception, and outreach and inclusivity.

Commenting on the rankings, Fr Manoj D’Souza, director, SJIM said, “We are very pleased that SJIM’s emphasis on quality in management education has been recognized. At SJIM, we have always strived for authenticity, and have made long-term investments to achieve authentic educational excellence. This has borne fruit.”

This is SJIM's fiftieth year of existence, and SJIM remains a leader in management education. The institute attributes this to its steady and genuine value-based approach to education. “We take in students from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and offer several merit-based scholarships. Once in SJIM, all students receive personalized attention. Teaching quality is emphasized, and we conduct numerous workshops and industry-related events for the students. Further, we sincerely work to place all our students in well-paying jobs of their choice,” says Fr D’Souza.

Laurels for Jesuit Education in Karnataka

SJIM is run by the Karnataka Jesuits, a part of the international Catholic order of priests known as the Society of Jesus. Other Jesuit educational institutions in Karnataka have also performed extraordinarily well. In NIRF’s ranking of the top 100 colleges in India, only three colleges from Karnataka find mention. St Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bengaluru, is ranked number 55 and St Joseph’s College, Bengaluru stands at number 60 in India. St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, comes in at rank 94. It is truly a testament to Jesuit excellence in education that all three of Karnataka’s best colleges in the NIRF college ranking are Jesuit-run.

Congratulations to SJIM and, in particular, its Director Fr. Manoj D'Souza and Dean Prof. Edwin Castelino. The top rankings speak loudly about the prestige and management of the business school. I had the privilege of visiting the school at the beginning of this year and the honor of meeting both the director and the dean and have tea with them. Thanks.
