Mangaluru, Mar 6: Life is not a classroom and learning is a never-ending process. Hence learning cannot be contained within the four walls. Learning systems have geared up for transforming child into a Learner for Life.

Most schools today give more importance to learner outcomes than mere grades. Learning is no more confined to textbooks. Science needs to be explored than learnt; Math can be better understood than practised.

Children have beautiful ideas; they need an environment where they can convert ideas into concepts and concepts into working models. The best teaching-learning practices of the world are available to every child, here in India, in Mangaluru city, in Manipal School.

Introducing Innovation Lab at Manipal School

Students are provided with a safe environment where they can research and experiment on new ideas. Innovation Lab aims to give students prototyping skills to put their ideas into working projects such as building a balloon car, a vacuum cleaner and many more.

Innovation Lab is developed with an objective to develop an innovation mindset in children - Maker, growth and team mindset. Growth mindset is to encourage children to take initiatives and help them discover how they learn best. Maker mindset encourages a child to exhibit curiosity and resourcefulness, locate/use tools to complete tasks and learn from setbacks. Team mindset encourages children to collaborate to identify and create solutions, understand multiple points of view and ask for help when needed.

The innovation lab takes students through the entire design and making cycle in various stages. Students are guided towards component exploration, making by seeing, assembling by seeing, assembling without seeing, making without instructions and then developing various models to complete the given problem statements. The activities, problem statements are age appropriate. Innovation lab also enables students to develop tool handling, engineering and material selection skills. Innovation lab hosts modified tools, equipment and machines to ensure the safety of child.
