Mangaluru: Tiara Gonsalves from Mount Carmel bags first place in state level chess tourney

Mangaluru, Feb 13: Tiara Amanda Gonsalves, class 1 student of Mount Carmel Central School has bagged the 1st place in the under-7 girls’ category in the Karnataka Open Chess Tournament conducted on February 3 and 4 at Horanadu, Chikkamagaluru, scoring 4 points out of 5 rounds.

Earlier this year, she bagged the 4th place in under-7 girls’ category in the 5th Karnataka State Schools Chess Championship scoring 4 points out of 5 rounds held at Mysuru.

She had also won the 2nd place in under-9 girls’ category in the Inter School Rapid Chess Tournament-2018 held at Kundapur, securing 4 points out of 5 rounds.

Tiara is the daughter of Dr Michael Gonsalves and Dr Sharmila Gonsalves and has trained at Derick Chess School under the guidance of Derick Pinto and Prasanna Rao.
