Mangaluru: Students oppose mayor Sanil inaugurating bar at Kuntikana

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru Dec 7: St Ann’s High School students opposed Mayor Kavitha Sanil from inaugurating a bar and restaurant at Kuntikana on Thursday December 7.

When Mayor Kavitha Sanil arrived to inaugurate the bar and restaurant located near St Ann’s School at Kuntikana, students gathered in large numbers and opposed Sanil inaugurating the bar claiming that it is within the 100 meters from the school.

Mayor Kavitha Sanil said," I came here to inaugurate the bar and saw that students gathered in large numbers to oppose the opening of the bar. Students say it is within 100 meters from the school. But bar owners claim that it is 120 meters away from the school. So there is confusion on this matter. So I am returning without inaugurating the bar,”

PTA member of St Ann’s School Jasmine said," We have appealed to the concerned officials and we agree that there was a delay in appealing. We did not know that restaurant will turn into a bar and restaurant. We have measured the distance and found that it is only 70 to 72 meters. I urge bar owners to measure the distance and prove it is above 100 meters. Is it right to open bar and restaurant close to the school?”

While mayor Kavitha Sanil had to return without inaugurating, the bar owners managed to open the bar and restaurant.

What is the action which the mayor will take despite not inaugurating business has started?? Can we expect action After all they invited her to inaugurate it! How many such cases are there which are reported but no action being taken. We protest , we report but unfortunately people who need to read and decide don’t bother as long as non from their family suffer! I only hope people in power stand up what’s right for common mortals like us before it’s too late.

Alcohol a social evil must be banned eventually and wine and Toddy to be promoted fro smooth transition .

Mayor inaugurating a school, college, hospital etc. looks good. But a lady mayor shutting down water supply of a apartment and inaugurating a bar looks very cheap.

The whole thing is that "Ki Bhaiya Sabse Bada Rupaiyaa".

    i hope it is understood.

St. Anns students and management did a strategic plan to hit at the right time, with the right way. Kudos to the School. This is definitely better than sitting Dharna for days together with no results in such cases. I had a great respect for the Mayor so far, but now doubt if she was doing her raids etc just for publicity. She should have known that she was taken for a ride by the Bar owners!

Mayor should know before going to any inauguration what kind of business she is going to inaugurate. She should have cancelled the permit of the bar which is within the close vicinity of schools and colleges. She should become smart and not like this. Why children chose not to oppose, would she went ahead with the inauguration? Where is the law? What to expect from Congi Dongi rule?

Bar is just across the school...Is the road 100M wide? If it is proved that the distsnce is less thsn 100M...the concerned officer who has given the licence shd be suspended immediately...and Mayor to uphold the dignity and integrity of the highly respected chair which she occupies as a first citizen...is required to do some homework henceforth before attending such functions......

Concerned excise licensing authorities should immediately check the license issue and take strict action against the culprits. Please do not spoil our public by encouraging liquor. Also it is near a school, residential and hospital area

In our life, problems may go from HAYWARDS 2000 to Haywards 5000
But we must take them as a Royal challenge
Otherwise people will call us Old monk and put a Black label on our name
So we must learn from Teachers to fight like Jack Daniel
    Live like a bagpiper
    walk like Johny walker
    Work till 8 PM
    and think like Director special
    catch the ideas like Kingfisher
and Knock out all the problems
    then life will be imperial
    and we will become Aristocrat

Why should the Mayor get involved in inaugurating the bar in the first place. A woman should go to such events. What message does she communicate to other women who face the wrath of their alcoholic husbands?
If they don't know how many meters, just get a tape immediately and declare if its legal or illegal to have a Bar at that location.

Present Mayor good in all like raiding parlours, massages ,game cenrters etc,
But has a soft corner too Garages and Bar near convent schools, this is the second incident within a short period.

Bars and Wine stores are not allowed within 500 mtrs of Highways then why it is allowed withing 100 mtrs of Schools.
DC should take strict action action person who are involved in it.

Kavitha sanil should be little smart and decide what is good for her to inaugurate and what is not.
Mayor shutting down the massage centers on one hand and inaugurating a bar on the other hand doesn't set a good example.
