Bhatkal, Dec 7: "In the interests of national integration, it has become necessary to defeat forces which use religion to spread enmity and hatred in the society. In politics, priority of rulers should be to discharge duties towards all sections of the society sincerely without fear or favour. People who do not know how to mutually respect each other and try to ignite the fire of hatred between different sections of the society need to be defeated in national interest," said Karnataka chief minister, Siddaramaiah.

He was speaking after taking part in a programme in which various works were either inaugurated or foundation stones were laid, relating to Honnavar-Bhatkal assembly constituency. The programme was organized on Wednesday December 6 at Police Parade ground under the aegis of the district administration, zilla pancyayat and various other departments.

"The way a union minister from this region has been speaking reflects the level of his culture and refinement. I am pained even to utter his name. During the last four and half years, our government has implemented several people-friendly programmes. We did not conceive of these programmes for getting votes. Within 30 minutes since we took over power, we implemented 'Annabhagya' scheme. We provided BPL cards to 1,80,00,000 people. 1. 02 crore children are the beneficiaries of our 'Ksheerabhagya' scheme. Still, BJP has been terming our government as corrupt. We want to know from BJP whether Yeddyurappa, Janardhana Reddy, Anand Singh, Katta Subrahmanya Naidu and other BJP leaders went to jail to develop relationships," he said in a verbal tirade launched against the BJP.

Siddaramaiah pointed out that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who promised to bring back black money stashed away by Indians in foreign countries back, failed to do so. The promise of creating employment also has fallen flat, he stated. Under R V Deshpande's leadership, Karnataka has stood first in the country in terms of attracting investments," he pointed out. He also came down on Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shettar of saying something and practicing something else.

Minister, Dr H C Mahadevappa, said that the state is on the fast lane of development and is being run as per the wishes of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He said that the state government is hell bent on punishing people who are trying to disturb religious harmony. Minister, R V Deshpande, said that for the first time in the history of the country, people who lost houses and land could get compensation because of his efforts.

Local MLA, Mankalu Vaidya, presided over the programme. He criticized union minister, Ananth Kumar Hegde, for the adverse comments he has been passing against the former.

Deputy commissioner of the district, S Nakul, welcomed. Assistant commissioner, Manjunath, proposed vote of thanks. Manohar Mangaluru presented the programme.
