Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School celebrates Library Week

Mangaluru, Dec 5: Lourdes Central School celebrated Library Week from November 27 to 30 through various programmes to enable students know about the importance of a Library.

Special morning assemblies were conducted apprising students, the significance of the Library Week. Various literary competitions set the tone for LCS Library Week.

The school library which was the venue of this exhibition saw the participation of students from class 6–12.

Class 6 – Bookmark making competition
Class 7 – Book cover/jacket making competition
Class 8 & 9 - Literary quiz
Class 10, 11 & 12 - Book review competition

LCS library week and exhibition was inaugurated by the Principal Fr Robert D’souza, in the presence of vice-principal Belita Mascarenhas, librarians Nandini and Lavina Crasta, reader’s club members and in-charge teacher Dilla Colaco. The principal interacted with students and quizzed them about the activities.

The LCS Library Week finale was celebrated on December 2 during the morning assembly with great aplomb.

Lalitha Mallya, an educationist was the chief guest of the function. Principal Fr Robert D’Souza and vice-principal were the honoured dignitaries.

Cultural programme soon followed after the welcome ceremony.

An impressive array of variety entertainment kept the audience spellbound.

Diya Yashodhar of Class V (A) brought alive children’s literature by performing a monologue of Robin Hood, a popular model of courage, generosity and justice.

A mellifluous group song was sung by the students of class IV (A) which captured the hearts of all.

An exhilarating dance by students of class VI, VII & VIII depicting the wonder and magic of books was breathtaking.

A short skit by students of class VIII ‘Books open Doors’ was indeed stimulating and a lesson for life.

The winners of the various competitions held during the LCS Library Week were felicitated by the chief guest.

The Chief Guest in her address said that a school library is a place in the school where vast collections of literature, fiction, non- fiction books etc are kept.

Students must make Books their friends, and cultivate the habit of reading which will increase their knowledge and understanding on various subjects and helps in their academic performance. A few tips on how to handle books in the Library came in handy for the students.

She was presented with a memento by vice-principal Belita Mascarenhas.

The principal in his address thanked and congratulated librarians Nandini and Lavina Crasta and the teacher in charge of the reader’s club Dilla Colaco for making this library Week meaningful and conducting various literary competitions. He further advised students to make good use of the library and thus enhance their knowledge.

Anushka Ullal of Class X D delivered the vote of thanks.
