Kasargod: Loan borrowers gherao bank demanding return of pledged gold

Kasargod, Dec 4: Hundreds of customers, including women, of Koodlu Service Cooperative Bank here in the outskirts on Monday December 4 protested and gheraod the bank, preventing the staff from entering the premises.

Jewellery worth several crores, pledged by the customers against loans, was stolen from the bank in 2001 and 2015. The customers said that 153 of those who lost their valuables after thefts in 2001 and 880 customers after thefts in 2015 have still not their valuables back.

Bank officials had assured that the jewellery would be returned by October 30.

Police have taken custody of the stolen jewellery that was recovered. It is said that legal hassles have delayed their return.

Kasargod police arrived at the spot on receiving information.

The protests were called off in the afternoon after assurance that the problem would be solved in a couple of days.

    Why cant you read properly?Peoples are demanding return of gold and these stolen gold are in court custody.If court releases gold people has to pay their outstanding loan amount to release gold or if already paid gold will be released after proper identification from customer.
