'Love jihad': NIA quizzes Hadiya's husband after SC gives nod for probe

Kochi, Dec 4 (PTI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday questioned Shafin Jehan, days after the Supreme Court gave its nod to it to continue its probe into his marriage with Hadiya, a Kerala woman at the centre of an alleged love-jihad case.

Jehan was questioned a week after the Apex Court gave its nod to carry on investigation into the conversion of Hadiya and her marriage with him.

NIA sources said the probe team "re-examined" Jehan on Monday for clarifying certain facts from his earlier statement.

They, however, did not elaborate as the matter is sub-judice.

The NIA had earlier investigated Jahan and submitted its statement before the Supreme Court.

The marriage of the couple was annulled by the Kerala High Court last December after her father alleged that his daughter was being indoctrinated and may be taken ISIS territories in Iraq and Syria by extremist Islamic outfits.

"We make it clear that the NIA investigation shall continue in accordance with law," the Supreme Court had said last week while allowing the 24-year-old woman to resume her studies at the homoeopathic college in Tamil Nadu's Salem.

She was placed under her parents' custody since her marriage was annulled by the Kerala High Court.

Why don't they flag his passport like all the western countries do? That is the easiest thing to do. It should be a piece of cake for digital India. Keeping a 25 year old lady away, from her legally married husband doesn't make any sense. Are we that desperate to break their marriage. She is 25 years old let her learn from her mistake.

PM Modi's government has reduced such a premier investigation agency like NIA into 'Marriage bureau'.Interestingly the same agency has lost documents in 'saffron terror' case has given bail to Swami Aseemanand who has confessed to his crime.

That the issue of ‘love jihad’ will become so dangerous for women in love was not anticipated a decade ago. The cleverly crafted ‘love jihad’ campaign is based on the patriarchal notions, which are one of the core ingredients of communal politics. As per this communal thinking the notion of ‘Our women’, their women’ guides them. Woman is regarded as the property of man and is symbol of community honour. In precipitating communal violence rumours based of threat to ‘our women’ is put at the forefront, Muzaffarnagar violence being the prime example of the same.

What Supreme Court did is just transfer of her custody from parents to an institution. She is still not free. It is just a transfer of confinement of an independent citizen. The issue at hand was her right to convert and to marry whomever she wanted as an adult but, curiously, this fundamental right was overlooked in this case.Amazing that the SC did not set the brave 25-year-old Hadiya free to live with whoever and wherever and appointed college Dean as her guardian.“It’s very strange that Hon’ble judges of the Supreme Court have questioned the guardianship of married women. If the husband is not the guardian of wife then who would be?
Hadiya says she wanted to meet her husband. But the college has now turned to be her new prison. She has go bed 10:30P.M., no television, no mobile and without police escort and dean's permission she can't go alone.Hadiya’s encounter with the courts reveals the continued stranglehold of Brahmanical Order. The word 'Hadiya' means a guide to righteousness and right now, The judiciary and the state need It.

This is utter blunder and a biggest joke. What NIA has got to do with a marriage between two perfectly normal adults???!!!. To begin with its a strictly personal matter and if both are in agreement no body can do anything about it. It will be classified as 'Wrongful Dismissal'. Stupidity has reached its climax after 2014.

Here Marriage is not the key point .Even the father of the girl had no objection for the marriage .Mr .Ashokan,Father of Hadiya s only objection from the beginning is this Mr Sefin Jehan has links with IS and his daughter may be sent to Syria to join ISIS .NIA should be having credible proof on this for which Hon SC has given permission to probe .
Forget about father anybody and everybody has Right to handover terrorism suspects to Police or NIA because it is a national security issue

In that case marriage is not the picture first they should see any proof in Jehan's involvement in IS and take appropriate action against him. Marriage will take its own course depending upon the investigation report. BTW, by annulling the marriage the whole case gets settled without a proper investigation on Jehan's part??????.
