Udupi, Nov 12: In an exciting news for adventure seekers, scuba diving, in which one gets to experience the unique visuals under deep sea water, was inaugurated at Kaup beach on Sunday, November 12 by Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA and former minister.

Addressing the gathering, he said, "Several programmes are in the pipeline in order to develop Kaup beach as a tourist destination. Scuba diving will be the center of attraction. In order to attract foreign tourists, intenational airport has to be built at Padubidri. We are organizing 'Kaup festival' in the month of January 2018 to attract more tourists."

Sowmya, president Kaup municipality, Shivanand Kapasi, chief executive officer, Udupi zilla panchayat, Rayappa, chief officer, Manohar Shetty of ACT and Yathish Baikampady were present on the occasion.

Search was underway since two years for a suitable spot for this sport. Finally, as per the opinion of the boat federation, Mulky Par, which is eight km into the sea from Kaup beach, was selected.

The deep sea view in this area consists of coral reefs, attractive and rare species of fishes and variety of aquatic animals. Because of the clear water in this area, the deep sea view will be more transparent and feast to the eyes of the divers.

West Coast Adventure Company has entered into a contract with the Udupi district administration authorities for three years to conduct this adventure sport at Kaup beach. The same company is carrying out this sport in Goa, Mumbai and Nethrani Iceland.

Giving the details of the facility, Pavan Shourie, Manager of West Coast Adventure Company, said, "There is no need to know swimming in order to do the Scuba diving. Anyone above the age of 10 can participate. However, the participants have to sign a self-declaration form saying that they do not suffer from any ailment including Cardiovascular disease. Guidance of expert Scuba divers is available. All kinds of equipment required for diving and safety have been procured at a cost of Rs 35 lac. Fee for each person will be Rs 3500. Sorake is doing good work in his constituency, but the fish market at Shirva is not up to the mark. I'm sure the funds would have been allocated for the same and some portion of it must have been gone to the officials of different departments like panchayat. It's better to make sure that no middle men are involved in any project and the company should be paid directly from the loan from the bank or funds directly from the government with proper auditing.
Instead of building one more international airport at Padubidri, it's better to build a small airport with much bigger runway of international standard so that if there are any one or two bigger aircraft's are viable after conducting survey then they can be allowed to land with a few staff from department of immigration & custom's operating out of here. Scuba diving & other sports in around Kaup, Mulki & Malpe would definitely bring in more tourists from abroad for sure. Also it's better to hold events & competitions to make it more attractive to the tourists.

It's nice to see Kaup developing as a tourist destination like Malpe. Great work Sorake. Since there is Mangalore International airport, there is no possibility of International airport at Padubidri. Don't fool people by saying International airport at Padubidri...!!!

Thanks to the vision of the Congress government and a great visionary CM Shrimaan Siddharamaiahji. Another feather in Karnataka's cap. After the destruction of the states coffers from 2008-13 by Yeddi, Reddy and their chelas, the Congress had to start from scratch in 2013, and they have done a wonderful job over the past 4 years, in bringing back Karnataka's lost glory.
