Udupi: Not compulsory for ministers to attend Tipu Jayanti - Madhwaraj clarifies absence

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (RJP)

Udupi, Nov 10: "No rule makes it compulsory for district in-charge ministers to take part of in birth anniversary celebrations like Tipu Jayanti," said district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj after his absence in Tipu Jayanti celebrations was highlighted by a section of the media.

Speaking to reporters, Madhwaraj contended, "I was absent even during the birth anniversary celebrations of Chittoor Rani Chennamma, Kempegowda, Bhagirathi and Valmiki. No one questioned me then."

When a reporter pointed out that Tipu Jayanti was a prestige issue for the government, Pramod Madhwaraj replied, "It is your imagination. People who want to create controversies will always do it. We cannot break our heads on those issues."

When asked about the unhappiness among Muslims about his absence in the celebrations, he said, "People have the right to express their views in democracy. I did not participate even in the last two years of Tipu Jayanti celebrations. I had a function to attend which was planned and determined much in advance. So I could not attend this programme."

On the question whether he skipped the programme intentionally as election was nearing and he did not want to be part of any new controversy, Pramod said, "Why should I do it intentionally? If you want to analyze me that way, I do not have any objection."

Like his mother Pramod Madhvaraj is also riding double horse, Cong as well as BJP.
As alleged he is having tacit understanding with BJP as he is afraid of Jayaprakash Hegde who is more popular than himself and in next assembly election Hegde may contest from Udupi against Pramod and in that case he is afraid of losing to Hegde. Therefore he is trying to have some tacit understanding with BJP to keep away JP Hegde.

As Madhwaraj is district-in-charge minister, his action counts. And I congratulate him for his guts to go against Siddhu rule on this. If this was a cabinet decision, if Madhawraj had gone along with the decision (cabinet secrecy is at play here), it was out of compulsion. Did our JR Lobo do the same in Mangalore? Or did he toe the line?

Height of hypocrisy!! You don't have to Celebrate or attend Tippu Jayanthi to oppose BJP. You can oppose both Tippu Jayanthi and BJP . Also you mentioned BJP attacked churches, but you have no problem with Tippu who demolished So many churches to the ground including the Milagris Church. He even butchered Around 40000 Christians and forcefully converted many of them to Islam. They were tortured to death by tieing them to the foot of elephants. And you want to celebrate the birthday of such a Tyrant. If not for the British who killed Tippu the entire Christian community would have been finished in Srirangapatana and today you would not have existed itself.

    He is a safe seat.
If siddu takes action against pramod, he will go over to bjp and still win the election.
