Madikeri tense as protestors pelt stones at govt bus during Tipu Jayanti celebrations

Daijiworld Media Network - Madikeri (SP)

Madikeri, Nov 10: In the midst of opposition by BJP and several other organizations, the state government has gone ahead with the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti today. Programmes are being held in district and taluk headquarters in this respect. Several protesters have been rounded up.

Although prohibitory orders are in force in Kodagu district, large scale protests are being held at Madikeri. A number of protesters have been taken into custody by the police.

Stones were pelted at a bus belonging to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation at Kalur, Madikeri. Martyr's day is being observed all over Kodagu district in memory of Kuttappa, who lost his life during Tipu Jayanti last time.

Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan and MLC Sunil Subramani were detained for opposing the Tipu Jayanti event by waving black flags.

The district wears deserted look on par with the situation witnesses during bandh call.

Most of the shops and commercial establishments downed their shutters on their own and private buses suspended their services. A few KSRTC buses were seen plying. Government offices were open and post offices and banks were open. Police personnel were present everywhere in the city.

As many as 102 people in Madikeri, 30 in Virajpet and 40 in Somwarpet were taken into custody and released later.

Miscreants cut trees and put them across main roads in the night near Kadagadalu and Chettalli. Police removed them on Friday morning itself.

There was support as well as opposition for the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti at old Vidhan Sabha auditorium at Madikeri fort.

MLC Sunil Subramani said that Tipu Jayanti should not be celebrated as Tipu Sultan had betrayed the people of Kodagu. District Congress leaders said that the matter should have been explained to the chief minister. While BJP leaders shouted slogans against the celebrations, Congress leaders shouted slogans in favour of the celebrations.

Protesters sat in the auditorium wearing black strips. Police took them into custody and released them later.

The programme was presided over by Vidhana Parishad member Veena Achayya was inaugurated by Reshme Marata Mandala president T P Ramesh.

Leaders and activists of BJP, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagarana Vedike and Vishwa Hindu Parishad who were at Omkareshwara temple premises to proceed to fort premises condemning Tipu Jayanti celebrations, shouting slogans against the government were arrested by the police and released later.

What did the government achieve by doing this jayanthi. All places wore deserted look, curfew in certain parts...so where is the celebration? Just satisfying egos and appeasing vote bank.

"For every ruler May be Tippu or Shivaji they all did good things to our nation but there were some mistakes too".

Respectfully, I do not agree with you and I'm not just hitting at the disagree button, here is my reply as to why I disagree.

When you say that all people have done both good and bad deeds it is true and I agree, but in the same breath I will continue that in our society each and every one has done both and bad. So how do you classify someone who has done both good or bad, the answer is simple - When the good done is far more than bad that person or group is good, but when the Bad is far more than Good that person or group is Bad.

For example you cannot classify Hitler as a good person because he was good to his dog, good to his mistress, good to his cook, good to personal body guards, etc, etc. but he was bad to the most of humanity. Though he may have forgiven some people and even saved some lives, he led many millions to death and so he is Bad. A man, a party or a group should be known by all their deeds both good and bad and not by the kind words of their fans, or by half truths and open by blatant lies. Just because he or she is from a majority community or the community is very forceful and motivated they cannot, should not and must not change the course of history by making a bad person good and vice versa.

Remember 2 wrongs DONOT make 1 right. Wrong is always Wrong and Right is definitely Right.

I wonder how and from did Tipu Sultan become a villain? From when did he join any political party? All this time he was a freedom fighter, suddenly he becomes a mass rapist, murderer, blah, blah, blah.
If any organisation or individual feels any other freedom fighter or leader has been overlooked, they should fight for their recognition and not try to belittle Tipu.
And if anything is said on this matter people question our knowledge.
    When will good sense prevail?

For every ruler May be Tippu or Shivaji they all did good things to our nation but there were some mistakes too.

But comparing to present politicians they were far better.

BJP and Congress dont deserve to talk about our freedom fighters as we have 2002 and 1984 Massacres as real examples. How they can point Tippu or Shivaji where their hands are with thousands of innocents blood?

Let us not fall into the trap of these power hunger politicians (BJP/Cong/....) . Let people who support Tippu celebrate Jayanti. And those not sit at home and relax rather than hurting each others sentiments.

Rulers were may Muslim,Hindu or any other religion they did a lot for our nation than present corrupt politicians who did nothing than raising their own family wealth increased by provoking innocents.
